Television commercials are a powerful marketing tool. What else can better give you a rush of nostalgic emotion than a television commercial you haven’t seen in years? This article shows a handful of memorable SNES commercials you may remember. Thoughts?

My favorite video game commercial of all-time is the Super Famicom one for A Link to the Past. They just don’t make them like they used to.
Currently looking for the following SNES games:
Chrono Trigger
EarthBound
Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV)
Secret of Mana
Illusion of Gaia
Super Castlevania IV
Super Mario RPG
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
TMNT IV
Contra III

I’m not sure why video game companies don’t use TV commercials anymore. Maybe it’s because of the heavy expense of commercials, perhaps they think their target don’t watch TV anymore??, maybe they think their franchises have ascended the need to commercialize on television.
I don’t really know the reason why, but I still think TV adverts still have a place in gravitating folks to your product. Heck, if I had the money, I’d advertise SNES Hub on TV!

Your average game is not mass-market enough to warrant national TV ads. look at a game like Gears of War. How many people who watch American Idol and 60 minutes even HAVE a 360? Even if they do, how many would be interested in a violent 3rd person shooter?
If you thought it was bad this generation, wait until all three of these unwanted next-gens are out…..
they have chosen the path of overshooting the market. From here on out, things are only going to get worse.

My dark horse to win the next console generation is Valve with the Steam Box. If Valve can get the pricing and hardware design right, I think folks will gravitate to Steam’s platform and huge library of relatively cheap games.
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

The game console business is not easy. How many billions did Microsoft lose entering the market? And Sony wouldn’t be in the market today if it weren’t for their success with PlayStation (which was forced by Nintendo terminating their agreement). The Valve Corporation has never faced such a market.
While Hardcore gamers may get excited about a Valve Steambox I point to the graveyard of game consoles. These companies know this. Before I would invest in a Steambox I would have to have some questions answered.
1. Will Steam only exist on this new hardware?
If the answer is no, which I suspect it will be, then why should I buy the device? I already have a computer. I can buy Steam games on it. Why should I buy another expensive device if the same general software is available on the computer I already own?
2. Will Valve games only be able to be bought on the device?
Since the answer is likely to be no, then what reason does the consumer have to buy such a game console? Game consoles are driven by software… mostly software that can only be bought for that hardware. Super Mario Brothers, HALO, Grand Theft Auto 3 (for a while), Sonic, all of these pushed momentum into the hardware sales.
So the REAL question regarding Valve is whether or not they are ready go exclusive on a piece of hardware. Since that would be such a radical change for the company, I assume the answer remains no. And so instead of another REAL contender what we will get is another avenue for Valve to accumulate wealth. Nothing more.
