OfflineI’m planning a trip to Kyrgyzstan next month to do some mountain driving around Issyk-Kul and maybe down to the southern parts. I’ve heard the roads can be rough, so I guess a regular sedan won’t cut it. Any tips on what kind of vehicle I should look for? Also, is it easy to find a rental company that allows cross-border travel if needed? Cheers.

OfflineFor Kyrgyzstan’s mountain roads, a 4×4 is highly recommended, especially if you’re planning to go off the main highways. The process of renting a car in Kyrgyzstan is similar to other countries, but you’ll want to check the vehicle’s condition carefully. You can browse available SUVs on platforms like this one, for example https://getrentacar.com/en-US/kyrgyzstan . Make sure your rental includes roadside assistance, as mobile coverage can be spotty in remote areas.
