Ignored a small oil leak and now my engine is knocking|Article Discussion|Forum|SNES HUB

I am kicking myself right now. About four months ago I noticed a small spot of oil on my driveway occasionally. It was tiny, so I figured it was just a slow seep and kept driving. I checked the oil level once in a while but didn’t think much of it. Last week I started hearing a knocking sound from the engine, especially when accelerating. Took it to a mechanic and he said the engine is damaged from low oil and running too hot. I was reading an article at uaebustiming.com/delaying-minor-car-repairs-cost that explained exactly how small leaks lead to big failures, especially in our heat. Now I am looking at a huge bill or maybe even a new engine. Has anyone else had a simple problem turn into a disaster like this?
