A project some of the writers wanted to do is now completed. This articles finalizes a ranking of the top 200 Super Nintendo games. Can the SNES library really be summed up in 200 games? Not really. But it was a neat idea to see what more than 200 gamers thought as a collective were the best Super NES games out there.

What are you thoughts on the results? Post it here and let’s talk about it.

It’s impossible to do a list that every one it’s going to agree with, but this list seems to place too much weight on obscure titles.  Can I ask specifically why Undercover Cops is #6?  Just for reference that’s 160 spots higher then any games in the Final Fight series.  It’s +100 spots higher then Batman Returns, Battletoads in Battlemaniacs, Battletoads & Double Dragon, Captain Commando, Final Fight, Final Fight 2, Final Fight 3, King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, Legend, Ninja Warriors, Super Double Dragon, etc.  It’s an underrated game, but I don’t understand why it’s so much better then some of the other games in the genre.  Especially since it’s single player.

Hello lpeters. Yes, you’re right not everyone can agree on one ranking. This ranking was actually formulated by 238 voters.

Undercover Cops and The Firemen, for that matter, ranked so highly because it received points in every weight category. None of the other games you mentioned received points in all 4 weight categories. Undercover Cops isn’t necessarily better than the other games you mentioned.

As I stated in the article, “consider this ranking as a road map to finding games that may suit your preferences.”

It was important that a weight specially be placed on obscure titles because:

1) Without it, Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, A Link to the Past, and Super Metroid would always take the top spots. Are they really the best games because they are the most popular? No. I did not want this ranking to be another popularity poll.

2) There are a number of fantastic obscure games most folks haven’t heard of. I wanted them to receive some attention. Have you ever played Sid Meier’s Civilization? What about Marvelous: Another Treasure Island? They’re fantastic gaming experiences that more people should be aware of.

I don’t think they are the best games because they are popular.  Rather, I think they are popular because they are among the best games.  I’d probably still put all of those in my top five.  It’s close though because I really like Secret of Mana and Yoshi’s Island too.  I’ve played many of the imports.  They are good, they are underrated, but to me that doesn’t by themselves make them better then the other games.  I guess I just need to treat this list as what you designed it to be.  A list of good games with a boost given to obscure games.

I’m not just trying to be a hater.  Where did you have Undercover Cop on your list?   I’d honestly like to discuss that game.  I’m wondering why whoever voted it better then those other games feels it’s superior, or perhaps it was just the 20% boost to obscure games.  For the sake of discussion let’s just compare it to he Final Fight series.  I would make the argument Undercover Cops is inferior to Final Fight.

Final Fight the arcade game or the SNES version? Because I would argue Undercover Cops (SNES version) is better than Final Fight (SNES version). I reviewed both of those games on this site and you can see them if you want by clicking on the links in this post. Undercover Cops had better graphics, better move sets, better weapons (ex.you could pull a telephone pole out of the ground and use it as a weapon), and better enemy designs than Final Fight. Both were only one player.

You might have an argument if you wanted to compare the arcade Final Fight to the SNES version of Undercover Cops. Final Fight 3 is probably better than all of them, but I haven’t played that one yet.

I put Undercover Cops 20th on my personal list and Final Fight 31st. Legend of Zelda: A Link to to Past was ranked 1st on my list by the way. It’s still my personal favorite SNES game.

And yes many of the Japanese/ European exclusives benefited greatly from the 20% weight I gave them.

I dig the list. You’re right of course, nobody will look at that list and be completely satisfied with the ranking but for me this isn’t too important. I’m forever seeing the same titles one top SNES software list so this is quite refreshing, from my POV.

An excellent and quick source of quality software that is full of underrated or obscure titles for the average games player. Good work, bud.

Thanks Ghost. I would have liked some of the members here and I to discuss the games in the poll and re-order them via a discussion, but I did the best I could.

You did a good job, considering. I apologise for not being around as much, I would’ve helped in any small way I could on this. Didn’t realise how long it had been since i last logged in tbqh.

Would of really hoped for more regular users, It’s surprising how quiet it is on here.

Just curious, what is your personal top 200 Masamune?

My WIP top list: http://minirevver.weebly.com/t…..s-wip.html

There are many games I haven’t yet played though and honestly I prefer to do tier-based lists and genre-specific lists since there are so many games that deserve roughly the same spot for me.

I have it. Just haven’t gotten a chance to play it yet. I definitely will give it a go along with a replay of Illusion of Gaia.

I remember Terranigma well. I had to buy that game bootleg from a Canadian. This was long before Repro Stores lol! 80 Dollars and One hell of a story getting through the Black hole that is the New Jersey Shipping and Customs center. Worth it all. I would do it again in a hot minute.

What a pleasant surprise to see you posting again, Mongunzoo. How have you been? Site is still here after almost 6 years!

Nowadays you can get Terranigma CIB, that’s how I got mine. What do you think of the list Mongunzoo?

I’ll always come back to my first love. SNES will always be waiting for the circle to close. I am better than I deserve. And the list is certainly interesting. A lot of the deepest gems from the Infinite Ocean made it! I am glad to see them get some exposure.

Nice to see you, Mon.

Even if the list appears mismatched in terms of positioning, and I already regard this list as controversial purely because you haven’t picked the obvious titles in the top positions, this is a comprehensive list of great titles and an excellent reference.

Honestly, if I did one based on my own experiences and tastes, it would be vastly different compared to the majority opinion.

WHAT! How’s Top Gear not #1? 😉 And Ninja Warriors isn’t even on the list? Haha!

Well that sure is a different list than the ones were used to see! Very interesting indeed.
