I’ve been exploring the idea of building a cryptocurrency exchange development services — focusing on backend architecture, security, and compliance — and thought this would be a good place to discuss it with fellow tech- and crypto-enthusiasts here.

Some of the core aspects I’m thinking about:

• Designing a high-performance matching engine that can handle large volumes of trades with minimal latency.
• Secure wallet infrastructure: incorporating cold-wallet storage, multi-signature wallets, and encrypted hot-wallet handling.
• API + UI design for trading, deposits/withdrawals, order book display, and real-time updates.
• Integrating optional KYC/AML compliance modules — for users who want regulatory-compliant exchanges.
• Building a scalable hosting and server architecture that can grow with user base: consider VPS vs dedicated servers, database optimization, load-balancing, and fault tolerance.
• Adding monitoring, audit logging, and security measures to mitigate hacks or fraud.

I’m curious to hear from people here:

• Do you think a small/medium-scale crypto exchange would have a realistic chance to succeed today, given competition and regulatory uncertainties?
• What features or design decisions would make you trust a lesser-known exchange?
