OfflineIf I remember correctly, someone made a similar topic to this one last year. I thought it would be a good idea to have a new one for the end of this year!
Which were your favorite games in 2014?
1. On the SNES
2. On any other system
_______________________________________________________________________
This year I had the chance to game quite a lot and I discovered a few games that I really enjoyed!
1. SNES: Ninja Warriors has got to be my favorite but Mega Man X and ActRaiser are very close behind!
2. Wii U: Shovel Knight (clearly my favorite game published in 2014).
Genesis: Phantasy Star IV
PS1: Suikoden II
PS2: Street Fighter Anniversary Collection and Mega Man X Collection
Yeah.. sorry I listed way too many games, haha! What are your favorite games you played this year guys?

Offline1. When Vega and M. Bison weren’t driving me to tears, I found “Street Fighter II” every ounce the classic people make it out to be. I wrote a review for it.
2. I loved “Nights Into Dreams” the more I played it, and I was already excited to play it before I created my Steam account. I had similar fun blasting through “Cave Story Plus”.

OfflineMy most fun games in 2014 were:
SNES
- Cybernator – I used to hate this game growing-up and didn’t care much for it when I was in my emulation phase either. I think the fact that it was published by Konami was messing with my expectations (I kept trying to play it like Contra). This year, I finally gave this game a proper chance and learned to appreciate it for what it is; a sweet action game that really nails the “heavy” feeling of your mecha.
- Gradius III – despite the ridiculous slowdown, I just can’t get enough of this game
- Pop’n Twinbee – this was my first ever SFC purchase and it was a good one. Can’t believe this game is still so cheap. This is a fantastic vertical shmup that is extremely accessible (can’t say that for most of its genre). It’s even better in two-player mode, with some really neat features (you can throw your buddy around, or set it up so that the A.I. targets only one of you).
Other
- Gunbird II (Dreamcast) – A very charming, colourful shmup with a ton of personality. Has some genuine humour in it and a cool story mode that changes depending on which character you pick (or which characters you combine in two-player mode) Be warned though, it’s insanely tough, even by the already difficult standards of the genre.
- Street Fighter III Double Impact (Dreamcast) – I had always assumed that Third Strike made the first to SF III games obsolete. Imagine my surprise to find out that the earlier titles featured better music and backgrounds. The balancing is quite a bit different than Third Strike too, with some of that games bottom tier characters being top tier (most notably Sean).
- Iridion II (Gameboy Advance) – A Western-developed shmup that pays serious homage to the vertical scrolling levels of Axelay. Amazing music and well worth its (very low) asking price.
- Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS1) – The atmosphere of the PS1 Resident Evil games has held up extremely well, even if the graphics have not. I had a lot of fun with this one; the Nemesis encounters do a great job at building tension.
- Resident Evil Revelations (PS3) – A great return to form for the RE series. It does away with the action set pieces of recent RE games and focuses more on resource management and horror. Nowhere near as good as the classics though.
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

OfflineGradius and Gradius-type games are so much fun to play. I’m really not a big into shooter’s but those games are nice. Parodius is like Gradius on acid so I recommend that. Pop n’ Twinbee (the shooter, not the platformer) I have too and it’s pretty cool. The first Cho Aniki game (on PC Engine/TurboGrafx16) is an awesome shooter with amazing music, as good as Parodius imo. You can get it on your Wii as a download.
