OfflineI’m sure every one of us had at least a few moments where a game manages to put us in a state of rage, be it through cheap enemies, iffy controls, or other stuff. Sometimes, the rage gets to the point where we ended up damaging stuff, be it controllers, the game, or even the system.
Now, while I do get mad from time to time, it usually doesn’t get to the point where I start damaging stuff. I knew that it would solely be my responsibility to replace any damaged or broken items with my own money. Even then, I remember one instance where the rage got the better of me.
I remember playing a crappy SpongeBob GBA game back in 2003 or so & the game in general was just pissing me off to the point where I took the game out of the system & threw it straight at the ground. Unfortunately, it didn’t break or even get damaged at all since it landed on the carpet.
More recently (this year), there were a lot of moments in Ninja Gaiden: Black that really infuriated me. Don’t even get me started on any games with tank controls.

OfflineOh hey Mark are you talking about Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom? I have that game and haven’t touched it in years – if memory serves me the level design was bad and some were impossible (i think especially factory stages) I got a code from a cheat book that got me about half way through.
Recently I got past Red Hot Ride (volcano level where you’re floating on balloons) in DKC2 that was quite frustrating for awhile, and Gorilla Glacier in the original is extremely annoying, I was at the last level before I got Funky or Candy’s points and I died and had gone through the 50 lives cheat, even more. So bad.
I’m stuck on the first level of the Asteroid Coaster in Sonic Colors which really sucks.

For me it has to be Battletoads on the NES. You know what stage I’m talking about. Words can’t describe the rage displayed towards that game. Suffice to say, a controller met an early grave.
I still have Battletoads for the NES. Suffice to say, I never ever saw past Level 3, the Turbo Tunnel. My parents really put me through the ringers with those NES games, I remember some genuinely tough games. I thought they got them for me on purpose, just so I didn’t nag them for any new ones & they could say “You haven’t completed that one yet”. No, and I’m never bloody likely to either! The chief culprit among the sadism that is my NES collection would be TaleSpin by Disney/Capcom for the NES…… let’s just say Battletoads has some competition for Hardest Game Ever. Seriously, I think that game was more frustrating than BT’s as I sucked at it so badly. A couple of times I’d see the second level but not many.
But in terms of anger the worst I’ve done is throw a pad up in the air in exacerbation & watch it drop down and bounce. Must have a decent amount of patience built-in after playing TaleSpin.

OfflineOddly enough, the most controller-throwing inducing games for me tend to be sports games when I play against a buddy. I always get extremely frustrated when they comeback in the final moments or if I miss a comeback opportunity. This happened a lot with the FIFA PS2 games back in the day.
I get frustrated with single player games, but never enough to throw the controller. The snowboarding sequences in Mega Man 8 definitely tempted me though…
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown
