Everybody has stores they like to go to for retro games, so list the ones you love to go to. For me I have a buddy who is a reseller with great prices, but occasionally visit the odd pawn shop or goodwill.

I don’t want to be a backseat mod, but this should be in the General Gaming Discussion section just to let you know.

Anyway, there’s a small chain store I like to go to called “Disc Replay”. It’s a chain located in the Midwest and they sell DVD’s, CD’s, video games, and sometimes other electronics. It’s great because the prices at their store are pretty awesome. You can get great games from there for low prices. I got KOF 2006 from there for $7 and Gungriffon Blaze for $5, both of which are awesome games.

I like going to small, locally-owned game stores.  The one I go to now is called Cybertron Games.  They have two stores and a pretty diverse collection.  They carry everything from Commodore 64 to SNES to Xbox to Wii U.  One I liked to go to in college was R.U. Game. It had a large collection of games, as well as a sizable used DVD selection. If you don’t have a local video game store, I’ve found Amazon to be useful.

Currently looking for the following SNES games:

Chrono Trigger

EarthBound

Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV)

Secret of Mana

Illusion of Gaia

Super Castlevania IV

Super Mario RPG

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

 Zombies Ate My Neighbors

TMNT IV

Contra III

Amazon isn’t too bad, but the prices online can be pretty steep sometimes. It’s great for when you can’t find a game anywhere else though.

Pawn Shops and garage sales are you best bet for finding things cheap  Good Will / Salvation Army Stores can sometimes be a good source.  Really, you kind of have to get lucky.

Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

I agree with Rush. I haven’t had much luck at pawn shops or thrift stores, and it’s currently not garage sale season yet. donation stores also haven’t given me luck at all.. so far I have to resort to my local retro store, but for the most part their prices are reasonable.

ouch, yeah and to add insult to injury it is only about a minute away from where I live 0_o it varies day to day what games they have for Super Nintendo though, I just saw Mega Man x3 the other day for 99 dollars. The cool thing about the store is that you can rent any game, and the money used toward renting goes towards purchasing it if you want to.

That sounds like a pretty neat business model.

Apparently GameStop is considering entering the Retro market.  It’d be interesting to see what sort of impact that has on used game prices.  I wouldn’t be surprised if they make this move soon, as the console manufacturers are becoming more and more hostile towards used games.

Now your just pulling my goat. So you could rent Chrono Trigger out and basically pay in an amount every time you re-rented it, so your slowly buying it without paying the full amount at once. Seems like an awesome alternative to buy games for your collection as even if they are valued high like CT or Earthbound it wouldn’t feel so bad as you’ve paid the full amount in small bits and not in one big ‘guilty feeling’ lump sum.

For the cheaper games, you could basically pay it off with the rental entirely.  If it wasn’t for you, you could always return it and only be out a few bucks.

From the store owner’s perspective, they’re at least earning some money on their Earthbound cart, rather then having it sit in a glass case because it’s too damn expensive.

Seems like a really great idea.  I may pitch it to some local retro game stores near me.
