OfflineSo far, the Microsoft conference has already been shown. The XB1 will go for $500 and will be released on November this year. I missed the conference, so I don’t know too much about what was shown.
Some games shown for the XB1:
Killer Instinct 3
Halo 5
Forza Motorsport 5
Quantum Break
Ryse: Son of Rome
Dying Light
Dead Rising 3
and others
The Nintendo Direct will be shown tomorrow on 9 AM CST and the Sony conference will be held later tonight on 7-8 PM CST.

Offline500 U.S Dollars really kills this thing at launch. Even without all the problems they system has, 500 dollars is just too steep in this macro-economic environment. Apple’s Smart TV system is cheaper and easier to use without the baggage if you are just interested in television and movies.
As for the games rundown:
Halo 4: Pr-rendered footage is really hard to get excited for. It will sell consoles when it comes out, but not as many as Halo 3 did. Halo’s star is fading fast to more popular shooters.
Killer Instinct: The real talent at Rare left a long time ago, and the remnants look set to butcher yet another franchise. goodie…
That said, KI has never sold software let alone hardware which is why we have not seen it in over 15 years. So unless something has changed in the last 20 years I do not see this game moving software or hardware, either.
Quantum Break: More Cinematic garbage! Aside form beign repulsed by games of this nature, Remedy has never been behind the wheel of a system seller, and I don’t see that changing here.
Ryse: Son Of Rome: I don’t expect this game to stay exclusive for long. Not with it’s 7-ywear development cycle. Crytek has to pay the bills somehow. Like many of Crytek’s games it looks solid, like something I might pick up if I ever owned hardware it’s on; but it could have been just as interesting with a third of the money they sunk into it’s presentation and development.
And If I May Be So Bold, I look for Crytek to no longer be with us at the end of Generation 8. You read it here first!
Forza Motorsport 5: Forza always sells admirably, so I will be watching this game’s numbers very closely. It will end up the canary in MS economic coal mine. If it fails to do 4 million+ lifetime sales, then that is an indicator that things are going south. That said, they are smarter than Sony who is releasing the new Gran Turismo on both the PS4 AND the PS3.
Dead Rising 3: It won’t remain exclusive, and it is not a hardware mover even if it does. Next…
Dying Light: THIS GAME WILL ALSO BE ON CURRENT-GEN SYSTEMS AND THE WIIU!!! WHY WOULD I BUY THIS FOR XBOX ONE!?!
MS has still not demonstrated to me why the coming games are worth all this bullshit. And to be blunt, FOR 500 DOLLARS THEY CAN BLOW ME! Anyone who ‘jumps in’ to Xbox One for that asking price is a moron who deserves to be leveraged by the Game Industry Cartel.
There I said it.

Offline$500 is far too much. Even if there were no other issues with the system, it still wouldn’t sell at $500. Just look at the PS3 launch for proof of this.
When one factors in all the other issues associated with the new console (spy camera, need to connect to the internet, DRM, etc.), it looks like Microsoft has a disaster on their hands. I am honestly baffled by the decisions they are making. Are they out of touch with their fan base? Are they really that arrogant?

OfflinePS4 just took all of MS customers in one fell swoop. The Xbox One has been Dreamcasted. 400 dollars is a perfect match for the value of the box. (Still too expensive in this economy, will sell slow but it will sell.) And Sony has more than illustrated that they understand consumer rights. I will own a PS4 at some point.
The biggest problem with Sony is Sony themselves. Sony launches are never very good. They are bad at giving consumers a reason to buy the box because at this time they are too busy playing with the greatness of the current-gen Sony games (Imagine The Last Of Us as a PS4 Launch title. Or God Of War: Ascension. Or a PS4 EXCLUSIVE Gran Turismo 6.) I understand why they do this, and it’s good that they give so much life to a “dead console”. (I wish Nintendo did that Lol!). But all it sghows me is that the current-gen system is fine and the new system is not needed.
What sells your system is THE GAMES. SPECIFICALLY THE GAMES THAT YOU CANNOT GET ANYWHERE ELSE!!! So if I can get them on PS3, I’m not buying a PS4 for them.

OfflineNo real surprises or innovation from Nintendo. Certainly nothing to convince me that I need a 3DS or a Wii-U.
I hope there are some nice surprises from third parties this year. The Big 3 didn’t really impress me.

OfflinePerhaps I shall say “Saturned” then, as it is more apt anyway. Saturn announced Strategy, then was soundly undercut by Sony.
Same thing with the Dreamcast. I was not referring to quality or handling. I was referencing business strategy.
Sometimes it pays to be last. Then you hold all the cards. At any rate Sony has learned from the PS3 disaster as well as buying the Game industry more time. The new question will be “Is Microsoft in too deep to pull out?”The answer will inevitably be “yes.” They have made their choice and now they must stick with it. to turn back now would be investor suicide. It would be admitting that they did not know what they were doing.
Machiavellian, I know, but so is life.

Offline“US Saturned” since the Saturn was a hit in Japan; the market it was designed for
Also, there was nothing fundamentally wrong with the Dreamcast’s strategy; they just got outplayed.
The Xbox One on the other hand is fairly unique amongst consoles for its hostility towards consumers / focus on everything else before games.
The other big difference is that unlike Sega in the late ’90’s, Microsoft has deep pockets and can continue to take a loss on the console should they choose (just like with the original Xbox).

OfflineAlso, admitting they’ve made a mistake and correcting it is the best possible course of action for Microsoft. You’re absolutely right, their stock would take a bath in the short term (moreso than it already is) if they went down this road.
But a funny thing happens when you admit you made a mistake. After the initial shame/humiliation, you can get back to business; the business of fixing an actual problem. In the long run, its the better course of action.
Of course, someone would have to take the blame for such a mistake and I doubt there’s anyone lining up for that honour.

I dunno about all their launches. The original Playstation launch was awesome. The games flowed very regularly after launch and they kept em coming for the most part. Ridge Racer, Battle Arena Toshinden, Air Combat, Warhawk, Twisted Metal, Destruction Derby were all within the launch windows and at the time were state of the art and most hold up well today. Toshinden not so much but still I consider PS1 as one of the best console launches ever. PS2 however was a different story. I didn’t get mine for another 8 months after launch. I pre-ordered my PS4 and 2 games last night as soon as their conference was over and they washed the knife they stabbed Microsoft with. = )
Not a fanboy, just a gamer...every system has its gems!!

Now that G4 is no more, I don’t know where to watch coverage of this thing. Where were you watching it Mark?
I didn’t get to see any of the e3 conferences this year, but I read about them, so I may have missed some stuff.

OfflineReflecting on this year’s E3, I have to say, I am thoroughly underwhelmed.
Sony was undoubtedly the “winner” of this year’s show, but when I sit back and think about why they won, I can’t help but be disappointed. This has to be the first E3 where the “winner” wasn’t the company with the best games, but rather the company with the best policies.
But why should we be praising Sony for simply maintain the status quo in the industry with respect to used game sales? Microsoft is definitely deserving of our ire, but I don’t think Sony is deserving of praise. No DRM / required internet connection / used game restrictions should be expected.

Not to toot my own horn, but it looks like Microsoft did the smart thing and have backed away from most of their controversial policies.
You are no longer required to “phone home” every 24 hours and there are no longer restrictions on used games.
It’s great that Microsoft has backed down from such awful, anti-consumer policies though the fact that they introduced them in the first place still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

OfflineTomorrow will be a good time to buy Microsoft Stock lol! Many investors will be selling off!
Though with the way Windows Phone and Windows 8 has bombed, if Xbox One cannot recover we actually may see the junkification of MS stock.
As you said, it will improve their situation long-term, but the bad taste people have will remain for a while. But it is nice to see that Self-preservation has taken root in the game industry even in this pygmy form. Now we just need to look at the AAA model.
*Sees TitanFall and Ryse. “Nope. We’ve learned nothing…”
