OfflineSo, what console designs do you guys like or dislike? As I’m a big fan of small consoles, my favorites would have to be:
Slim PS1 – Obviously one of the smallest Playstation systems. This design alongside the PS2 slim happens to be my favorite when it comes to the designs for Playstation systems. As a plus, you can even attach a little LCD monitor to it, making it one of the most portable home systems around.
Slim PS2 – Almost as small as the Slim PS1, but a bit wider. I don’t think you can attach a monitor to it though.
PC-Engine – Even smaller than the Slim PS1. This design just kicks ass in every single way. Why did NEC had to make the TG-16 into an ugly, sad, obese behemoth compared to this thing?
NA Super NES – Ok, it’s not one of the smaller consoles, but I really like the purple & white color scheme as well as the blocky design. Too bad the plastic on some units gets discolored horribly though.
least favorites:
Original Xbox 360 – It looks way too much like a CPU tower rather than a game system. Not only that, but it’s way too bulky. The original Xbox doesn’t look much better, but at least it has a cool design. This POS on the other hand needs to be sent back to the drawing board design-wise & maybe to a fat camp as well.
Original PS1 – It’s not terrible, but it looks horribly bland compared to the other CD systems at the time.
Turbografx-16 – Way too much unnecessary bulk compared to the PC-Engine. This POS needs to be sent to a fat camp as well.

OfflineOutside of NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, Xbox360, PS3, and Wii, I can’t really comment on hardware design. As to what I prefer I do not buy a console for hardware, and if it is ugly I can hide it in a cabinet, so as long as it can play games I care about, it’s all good.
That said, my favorites designs are the SNES, Genesis, and N64. Top loader cartridge-based systems don’t bend the pins and are practically bulletproof and immortal as long as you’re not doing something dumbass to them. These consoles also have zero bullshit to them, no OS that the game has to navigate to get in the game, no weather channel or other shit that no one asked for clogging up the interface and raising the price. Just pop your game in and BOOM! You’re in…
As for the new batch, I don’t really like the designs all that much. Way too much in the way just to play the game. One reason why my dad left gaming is that he got fed up with the interface shit, as it confused him. He says that if he wanted to put up with this shit, he’d play a PC game lol! More moving parts means more things break and easier. As for all the bloat that most pero;e do’nt use, you could chuck all that shit and just give me BC, and i’d be fine, since I buy consoles for GAMES and not hardware.
