Has anyone been following what’s going on at E3 thus far? The Wii U is getting some definitely needed games to bolster its fledgling catalog. I’m interested in all of these!

If anyone believes that Starfox Zero is going to sell WiiU’s, I have a bridge that I would like to sell you. That said, it looks teriffic and will be very important to WiiU current owners which at this point is more important.

That said, this event was garbage even by Nintendo’s own mixed standards. Wasting Next Level Games on that……. ABOMINATION they are calling Metroid is a fucking sacrilige. Too much focus on 3DS which is a shame since 3DS has third party support and plenty of games. The Zelad title shown will be instant Bargain Bin Status.

I simply do not understand Nintendo, and at this point I have given up trying. This is the reason why people are traditionally hesitant to early adopt Nintendo consoles post SNES. It is very clear that their heart is with handhelds. All that said, however, we need to wait for TGS, where Nintendo may reveal whatever Retro has been up to.

Starfox might sell a few Wii Us with the right advertising and word of mouth. But at this point I don’t know what will sell a lot of Wii U systems besides a traditional Zelda title.

All I really care about right now is Nintendo and whomever releasing more good to excellent titles for the system … it needs it!

I agree with Mongunzoo, Star Fox has never been a system-seller.  The only system-seller Nintendo has left for the Wii U is Zelda, which they seem to be in no hurry to get out the door.   Overall, their E3 presentation gave me the impression that Nintendo is basically done with the Wii U and are simply in the process of finishing up what’s already been started.  Next year’s E3 will be all about the NX and I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo makes Zelda an NX launch title (or perhaps does the Twilight Princess thing and releases them on both consoles).

A weak E3 for Nintendo, but a decent E3 overall.  I was totally floored by the Shenmue 3 announcement personally.

Back to Star Fox, I’m cautiously optimistic about it.  The game looks great, but I’m a bit worried about the gameplay.  Specifically, the tank, walker and gyro levels.  To me, Star Fox has always worked best as a spaceship rail shooter.  The quality of the most recent releases has been lowered by the focus on other gameplay styles (on-foot levels, etc.).  It’s a bit like the issues the Sonic series has suffered from in the past.  The games work best as speed-based platformers, but the developers didn’t have the confidence to build a game solely around that so they added a bunch of other play styles (treasure hunts, shooter levels, etc.) for the sake of “variety” and diluted the product as a result.

Super Mario Maker looks like the game changer. Might have to get a Wii U myself now.

A friend of mine said he would get the Wii U when Mario Maker comes out. Star Fox might not be a system seller, but Mario Maker may be.

I bought a Wii U for Super Mario Maker. It is fantastic. It is a system seller. If all I get out of this machine is “Super Mario Maker Player”, then I’m probably fine with that.

My id is ericdewd if anybody wants to friend me and show off levels.

I have actually been considering getting a Wii U for that game and a few others…which says a lot since the newest console I own is the ps2.

That’s a $70 game in Canada.. Kinda expensive for what it is in my opinion. I thought it’d be around $30-40 for some reason when I first saw it at E3. Is it that good? I barely ever touch my Wii U nowadays.

I don’t understand this sentiment at all. What is it, in your opinion? And what should it be to warrant a full game price tag?

I was under the impression that it was some kind of 8-bit Mario game but with the possibility to create your own levels when I first heard about it. Would you buy an old Mario game for $70?

Also, games like Shovel Knight and Mighty No. 9 are coming out for the Wii U in physical form soon. These game are going to retail for $30 CAD. I was under the impression that Mario Maker would fall in the same categorie of games.

I guess I’m just stuck with my initial impression that Mario Maker would not be a ”fully fleshed-out game” or something. Seems like I am wrong and should probably give the game a try! Although new games are crazy expensive in Canada right now.. Around $70 before tax for a Wii U title and around $80 for a PS4/XboxOne title. I will have to wait before I try it out!

I don’t know that you can really call it an “8 bit” game. You can create levels in the style of SMB/SMB3/SMW, and New Super Mario Bros. So, graphically, it can look pretty slick, if that’s a concern.

In terms of content, I am almost positive it’s going to outdo a game like Mighty No. 9 (don’t know much about shovel Knight). The level editing tool is so slick, and people are already churning out a lot of awesome levels. Even in my small circle of friends, we’ve come up with some very fun levels.

I mean yeah, you can argue that the users are the one creating all the replay value, but without the top-notch level creator, you’d have nothing. And it does some with pre-made levels, as well.

Antarch, have you ever played any of the Little Big Planet games? It’s like that but with Mario. The replay potential is amazing. You could still be playing this game 3-4 years from now. How many games can say that? Here’s a fair review:

The Wii U game I’ve had the most fun with is easily Splatoon.  I was very pleasantly surprised by it.  It’s great for playing in small bursts and has an addictive quality to it that usually keeps me playing for longer than I planned.  It also has a great style to it that is really unique amongst Nintendo franchises (reminds me a bit of Jet Set Radio in a way).

I ended up picking up Super Mario Maker and I can comfortably recommend it to any Mario fan.  Apparently there’s been over one million levels uploaded already.  ONE MILLION LEVELS!  Even if most of the levels are crap, that’s still way more great Mario levels than every other Mario game combined.

There are a few drawbacks (lack of hills, lack of checkpoints, no real story or campaign) but nothing that’s a deal breaker.

If anyone’s interested, they can check out my first level.  There’s more coming too!

That’s awesome!  Thanks for giving my level a try.  I’ve made some more since then; will post the level codes later.

Let me know when you’ve uploaded some levels and I’ll be sure to play / star them.

I need to pick a Wii U up now. Wouldn’t it be amazing if Capcom released Mega Man Maker. I can only dream.

Hey Ghost, did you know about the level editor in Mega Man Powered Up on the PSP?  It’s not quite a Mega Man Maker but it’s not a bad substitute.

I’m holding out for a Sonic maker, but I’d settle for SEGA getting their shit together.
