No, not where they are developed but the theme. I want to know what us cowpokes can come up with and suggest as good cowboy/old west themed games from yesteryear. I have a couple in my humble ranch but if you can add any suggestions it would be most welcome, happy trails!

Gunple: Gunmans Proof – Cracking Zelda-esque action-rpg set on a wild west island with the emphasis mainly on action. Available on Super Famicom.

Lethal Enforcers II – Early light-gun game sequel set in the old west. The graphics consist entirely of digitized photographs which allows players to shoot photo-realistic representations of enemies who themselves were played by actors. Various ports.

Sunset Riders – Play as a bounty hunter in the hunt for outlaws in this smashing co-op shooter. Native Americans, bandits and bar floozies a’plenty in this western romp.

Gun.Smoke is a great cowboy-themed vertically scrolling shmup for the NES and arcade.

The Wild Arms series of RPGs have a Western setting.

Mad Dog McCree has its charms as a “so bad its good” FMV-based game.

Last but not least, there’s always the uber-expensive SNES cult classic Wild Guns.

Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

Gun is a pretty good open-world gta-style game. It’s on all the 6th gen home systems except for Dreamcast & is also on the 360 & PSP. It’s a little on the short side, but it’s very fun while it lasts. The game isn’t very expensive either.

Can’t believe I forgot about the live-action fmv, Mad Dog McCree wink Thanks for the reminder, I’ll pick that one up on Wii as I notice it comes with Mad Dog 2 & Bounty Hunter included. Personally I like the cheesy acting.

Ah yes, Wild Guns. While it looks and plays the part I am put off by the v.high price it accrues. Shame as I’d like to have it one day.

I’ll check out Gun, thanks Mark. If I can get it for Gamecube I’ll probably snap it up should I see it cheap.

Great suggestions, cheers guys.

Definitely second Gun. Smoke.!!!!! One of my NES favorites!

You could also try out Our very own TinStar on the SNES. Its pretty good for what it is, and features no less than three different controller options!!!

Finally, one of the modern games I played and enjoyed was Oddworld, Much’s Oddyssey. a lot of fun, that one (at least from the little I played)……

Good choices all around, especially “Wild Guns”. My only major suggestion would be “Red Dead Redemption”, if that one counts.

Not to insult you, Mongunzoo, but when you say “Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee”, are you sure you don’t mean “Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath”?

Custer’s Revenge is infamous in the gaming world. Still it could be construed as historically accurate wink
