OfflineA couple honourable mentions for me are Sonic Generations (PS3) and Uncharted 2 (PS3).
Mong, if you have any love for the old Sonic games, I’d recommend checking out Sonic Generations. It’s my favourite Sonic game ever and one of the only examples of 3D Sonic done right. Best part; its $20 new.

OfflineI meant Wily Wars. It fixed some of the issues with MM1, and gave us 2 and 3 with a 16-bit facelift1 Thye Wily Tower was awesome, too.
I loved sonic until they started doing weird shit and ruining the franchise. If Generations is a return to form then I will check it out.

OfflineGenerations is a celebration of Sonic’s 20-year history.
It has 9 zones, each with two acts. Each zone is inspired from a past game. The zones are divided into 3 eras; Genesis, Dreamcast and Modern.
Act 1 has you playing as Classic Sonic in good old fashioned 2D platforming.
Act 2 has you playing as Modern Sonic in a mix of 2D and 3D gameplay.
Each Sonic has their own unique moves (spin dash for classic, homing for modern, etc.) and you can customize their abilities with unlockable skills (the elementals shields from Sonic 3 are unlockable skills for example).
There’s a demo on PSN that let’s you play both acts of Green Hill Zone. It gives a pretty good impression of what the game is all about, so I’d recommend starting with that.

OfflineZero Mission is the best 2D Metroid since Super Metroid (although there haven only been two of them).
If Zero Mission dropped the handholding and was a little more open, I’d say it would rival Super Metroid. It definitely has a faster play style which I like.

OfflineYou made it to ten Mong!
Good list David, the Road Rash games were a blast back in the day. I wonder what a SNES Road Rash would have played like.
May I ask why you prefer Streets of Rage 3 over 2? Was it the kangaroo?

OfflineGreat top 10’s, I hope I do them justice with my own if I can narrow it down.
Streets of Rage 2 I really like, probably more so than 3 but whats with the weird misty alien hive bit in the fun park – I never got that and it seemed so out of place compared to the rest of the stages – it still bugs me today, I always felt it made the game feel incomplete. Maybe its just me but the whole atmosphere of the game changes once you enter that place and then once the boss is defeated it’s like the game goes back to SoR again.
Number 3 I remember the nightclub stage with dancing chicks, strobe lighting and a kick ass techno soundtrack, pity about the slowdown while in there. The boxing kangaroo was pretty neat too. If only they sorted the cranked up difficulty issues before the euro release. Instead it’s one the most rock hard games you will come up against. Still good fun though.

OfflineLooking forward to your Top 10 Ghost.
You’re so right about the alien level / boss in SoR 2…. makes no sense!
SoR 2 has such a fantastic soundtrack overall though. SNES has much better sound then the Genny, no question, but I think the Genesis has the edge when it comes to techno-style music.

Offline10. Sonic Advance
9. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
8. Spyro: Year of the Dragon
7. Sonic Mega Collection
6. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
5. Gauntlet: Dark Legacy
4. Mario Kart Double Dash!!
3. Pac-Man Championship Edition DX
2. Angry Birds

I haven’t gotten into many videogames that came after the Gamecube was phased out, but this is what I remember anyway. “The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker” would be on my list if I could only remember getting past Dragon Roost Mountain.
