OfflineSonic Advance was great (especially the first). Dimps did a great job of replicating the Genesis’ trilogy’s physics. To me though, the level design in Sonic 1, 2 and 3&K is far, far superior to the Advance games.

Well, sure. That’s why it’s at number 10 and “Sonic Mega Collection” is at number 7.
The original Sonic games were better, but I also put “Mega Collection” on my list is because it’s a powerful nostalgia bomb. I felt kind of sad playing it back in 2003; the games, the extra features, even the interface, showed much affection for a time I never knew.
