super R type suffers from a lot of slow down, but overall it’s a pretty decent game. I wish I had the other title on the Super Nintendo instead of this 1, but it is what it is.

I think in the future I may purchase a Wii U, Master System, and maybe, just maybe try a handheld system for the first time.

You should get a GBA handheld gaming is great and very underrated and the GBA plays all Gameboy games and has good SNES remakes it’s the best portable ever made.

GBA is awesome, though I’d recommend going for a backwards-compatible DS.  That way you’d have access to both the GBA and DS library!

Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

David, you appear to be a connoisseur of retro games.  Have you tried the Dreamcast?  It’s home to a bevy of arcade-style games (fighters, shooters, etc.)

I would also recommend looking more closely at the Dreamcast. A lot of games were ported to other systems, but games like Power Stone 2, Project Justice, Shenmue, Typing of the Dead, Zombie Revenge and others are still exclusive. Check em out! smile

< Also recommend the Dreamcast, its a great console with some quality games though I didn’t get one till a year or so ago so I’m pretty new to it myself.

Time for an update on what I currently own.

  • Amiga 600
  • Master System II
  • Megadrive
  • Dreamcast
  • NES
  • SNES
  • Gamecube
  • GBA

Not to brag, but I keep it old school, most of the time. I stick with what I call the ‘grey carts,’ which are all on Nintendo’s retro triumvirate: NES, SNES, and N64. I love hunting down carts at stores and flea markets and snagging them for cheaps. My favorite game of all time, Tecmo Super Bowl for NES, at the flea market for $1? Hello, yes, thank you.

My recent affair with the NES has kept me from playing SNES. I almost feel guilty for it! I keep picking up cheap carts around town for both systems, so I have a lot to beat for both. A good problem to have, if I even saw one.

Let us not kid ourselves: The NES is just too fucking good!

While the SNES will always be my #1, giving us a good presentation paired with old-school game design values (you know, before gaming began to feel like a second job?), The NES STILL has some of the best experiences of any system ever, and it’s hidden gem library is ALMOST as extensive as SNES (Gun. Smoke, Shatter Hand,Little Samson etc.)
