Mostly option one, but option two is also part of my reason for collecting retro games.

Currently looking for the following SNES games:

Chrono Trigger

EarthBound

Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV)

Secret of Mana

Illusion of Gaia

Super Castlevania IV

Super Mario RPG

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

 Zombies Ate My Neighbors

TMNT IV

Contra III

I’m definitely option one, though option two can creep in if I’m not careful

Option 1, but there’s some Option 2 in me for certain.

Certainly option one. I’ll leave history preservation for others.

That’s why the older I get a little bit more of #2 creeps in. Have to say I doubt anyone here will state Option 3 is their primary reason to own games. Yes you will get people that sell games, perhaps for a living but it’s just not as important as having played and enjoyed them.

there are too many people that try to buy earthbound at a small price and then sell it for expensive prices.

Unless you own a retro game store, I don’t like people that do Option 3.  Get the game to enjoy the game, not to make a profit.

There are a ton of people who go for Option 3, not just game store owners.  Kijiji / Craigslist / eBay / Amazon are full of Option 3 people.

I don’t particularly like those people too. They make it ever more difficult for those that genuinely just want to play the game.

Those websites have some Option 3 people.  Some people use those to sell games they used to play when they were younger, but don’t play anymore.  I like when people sell their old games that they aren’t using anymore.  It give other people a chance to use them.  Now, buying a lot a games cheap and selling them at a higher price with no real interest to play the games, I don’t like.

Chrono Trigger

Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV)

Secret of Mana

Illusion of Gaia

Super Castlevania IV

Super Mario RPG

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

I pretty much buy retro games to play them. However, I’ve kinda stopped for a little bit since I’m selling off some games and focusing on getting PS2 games now.

Don’t sell to many retro games, sooner or later you’ll want them back!

PS2 has a great library of games. The best thing is that as a rule they are pretty cheap to obtain.

PS2 sold so well and it’s still relatively new, so it has a ton of old games floating around out there.  Give it 10 years and people will be paying through the nose for a copy of FFX or Disgaea.
