Offline“This post is Purposefully Overdramatic. Take it as a analysis by all means but many of my feelings have been embellished to entertain as well as to inform.” Thank You
——————————————————————————————————
For Years I have talked about the potential for the Game Industry to have a real version of the Day Of Lavos; A point of no return where they finally destroy themselves in the eyes of their potential customers.
THAT DAY IS 5/21/2013.
On this day The Xbox One was unveiled to a giddy Game Industry and a shocked and appalled customer base. Everyone from Analysts to NeoGaf to GameFaqs to CNN expressed their disgust openly.
And you know what? THEY DON’T CARE.
They don’t care because they have made the same mistake that Newspapers, and Cable Companies have made in the past; that is the mistake of thinking that you guide the customer. NO!! THE CUSTOMER GUIDES YOU!!
Having been in business for over a decade, This is the single most hostile consumer product that I have ever laid eyes on. Everything about this console feel hostile towards it’s consumers and advocates.
1.Xbox One Will Require 1 hour of internet connection per day. You MUST phone home or you will not be able to play games. (No matter how miniscule this appears THE CUSTOMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THS!!!)
2.Xbox One Will allow Developers to use their streaming service for parts of their games,; If they do then these games will require you to be online. (This is why EA no longer funds the Street pass program. Why would they now that consoles will do it.)
3.Xbox One=ONLY ONE XBOX PER GAME! You will have to download the game to your HD, and it locks that game to your account. If you want to rent, buy a used game, or take your game to a buddies home, you will have to go through microsoft first, and you may have to pay)
4.Xbox One Requires Kinect to work. Not all games will use Kinect but Kinect is the interface that works the system. This forces the consumers, MANY OF WHICH ARE 360 FANS WHO DESPISE KINECT to use it
5.Xbox One has ZERO BACKWARDS COMPATIBLILTY; You cannot even re-buy them and even Arcade games WILL NOT WORK. This is Microsoft controlling YOUR LIBRARY.
I hate being right. I have said numerous times that this Game Industry Implosion would soon turn into a war on the gamers, and now the first shot has been fired by an industry that fails to see that the real problem; even worse is the fact that they refuse to see their own products in relationship to society. WE DO NOT NEED VIDEOGAMES! WE DO NOT NEED VIDEOGAMES!
I take heart in the fact that the customer has never lost a single battle, because in a fight between the guy with the money and the guy with his hand out, the money man wins EVERY TIME.
——————————————————————————————————–
And not to rain on any parades, but to those saying”Fuck Microsoft, I’m Going PS4!”, how do you know they won’t do the same thing? I expect them to. They have not said outright they won’t, and now we have all of the third parties cancelling their own restriction programs. I am sad to say that they will likely go down the same path.
And here is another question for you: Who can really say that the WiiU is doing THAT BADLY? It’s a new generation that was largely unwanted. A terrifying potential for the game industry is WHAT IF THE WIIU’s terrible sales are JUST THE NEW NORMAL?!?
If that is true, then The Day of Lavos has arrived for a selfish and arrogant industry. They have finally and irrevocably turned their backs on their customers and so now we will do more than turn away, we will cheer as company after company goes under. GAMERS HAVE A MORAL RIGHT AND OBLIGATION TO CHEER AND REVEL IN THE COMING DESTRUCTION, because they had a choice, and they chose to fight us instead of delivering a product to keep us coming. I look forward to doing my part of burying this industry by not buying any of their products and guiding my investments into turning their backs on any piece of technology that does this.
And when the Day of Lavops is over and the dust has settled, and the graveyard that will be the eighth generation lies quiet and unadorned, perhaps a rose will grow in this blighted landscape.
Last time this rose was called Nintendo, Perhaps this time it will be called Valve…

OfflineGotta agree. I wouldn’t be surprised if the PS4 turns out to be a false savior.
I don’t think Valve could save gaming. I heard that Steam also has some nasty DRM. I haven’t used it in years though so I don’t know for sure.

OfflineAll I meant by that is that if I am going to buy new games (And I am not. NOT EVER AGAIN. NEVER ANYTHING BY THIS GROUP OF 3RD PARTY THUGS.) I might as well buy them on Steam since it will be cheaper and less draconian. I might as well buy a new PC.
But personally I WILL NOT. Fuck Gaming. They have proven forever that they don’t care about me. They don’t care about my family experiencing the same magic I once did with mine. So why should I care about them or their families?
In Chrono Trigger the end of the world killed off most of the people on the planet, and so it will be here that most gamers will be “killed off” due to these draconian policies, higher prices, and shitty products. Yet there were a few survivors of The Day OF Lavos, Miserable and Starving wretches that used machines that gave them nourishment but never filled them up. That will be what the gamers who stay will be like.
I am thankful to have “died” on the Day Of Lavos. I am Free LoL!

OfflineThe hits just keep coming: Xbox One will not support Indy Gaming with their development tools as they did with Xbox 360. This console is literally ruled by the third-party Cartels who think that they have finally found a solution to their piracy problem and the “indy game pests”.
The only way this console will sell is if it is subsidized and given away for free by the Cable/Satellite companies who are equally desperate for customer contracts lol! Expect to hear about deals with ComCast and Dish Network in the near future.
But even then the joke is on the game developers because Xbox one is so anti-gamer that no one will use it to play games lol! Cliffy B says that “We Don’t get it; this isn’t a war over consoles anymore, but ENTERTAINMENT ITSELF!”
I hope CliffyB and the others enjoy getting “real jobs”……..

Microsoft is doing a terrible disservice to themselves with this new system. It seem like everything Mongonzoo pointed out about the system’s attributes is a step in the wrong direction. I can totally see this being Microsoft’s last video game system.
This is good for Nintendo though as Sony might be the only real threat to them this gen. They just gotta take advantage of it. Microsoft is going backwards and Nintendo seems to be going forward. We’ll see!

Steam has some nasty DRM, however most games will function without an internet connection.
Better still, most games are cheap and the service has frequent sales with some deep discounts.
If gaming companies want to license their games to a single user (rather then selling us a copy that we own), that’s fine, as long as they don’t charge $60 for them.
I’m also surprised that everyone assumes Nintendo won’t go down this path. Nintendo hates used games and piracy as much as their competitors. The big difference is that Nintendo isn’t really comfortable with the internet and likely couldn’t pull off an always-online DRM system in the near term. Don’t kid yourselves though; Nintendo would crush the used games market if they could.
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

OfflineIt’s not an assumption if the hardware has been out for six months and none of the games have any type of restrictions on them. It seems that the hardware itself lacks any type of consumer control features with the exception of region locking.
If Nintendo wants to pursue DRM in the future then that is fine. As I have said before I don’t have to buy jack shit. WE DO NOT NEED NEW VIDEOGAMES!! There are literally hundreds of thousands of old games out there, enough to last us the rest of our lives. I will buy those instead. For now, Nintendo seems to be the only company that does not have a hand in this, so they will be the only company I support with my gamer dollars until more decide to clarify their stance. It is a simple as that.
And I understand that Nintendo probably hates used games as much as they next guy, but there is a difference between seething behind closed doors while keeping your mouth shut, and acting in a manner that exposes what you think of the customer (the one with the power to destroy you.)
As for steam, they are cheaper so it does not seem to be so glaring in the eyes of consumers. The PC gamer has voted with their wallet, and they have decided that cheaper games across tied to one account (a plus) balances out the bad.
Very different from the consoles of the eight generation, where analysts and developers are talking about 70 dollar games that we will NEVER OWN lol!
