Beautiful and captivating, the SNES truly has some wonderful discoveries around every corner. Do you own all of those games Greg?

Thanks, Mongunzoo!

GhostSweeper, no, I just counted and I own 63 of these games. About 20 more of these were recorded from my friend’s Everdrive. The rest were recorded on my Xbox’s SNES emulator. For the second 100 SFC games video, I borrowed his Super WildCard, which worked very well, so all but a very few of those games were recorded on native hardware. However, I couldn’t get it to work when I started making this third video back in December 2011, so he lent me his (at the time) brand new Everdrive. Maybe the Everdrive has been updated since then, but I really wasn’t impressed. The WildCard will handle pretty much most ROMs, unless the game features some special FX chip. The Everdrive was finicky. It wouldn’t even load half of the games I tried to, and it resulted in a black screen. It was also very flaky too. For example, I had recorded footage of Back To The Future Part 2, and when I tried loading that game up to play it again, it wouldn’t load for some dumb reason. The Everdrive is cool because it’s the same size as a regular game (my friend placed it inside the shell of a Super Famicom cartridge) and you just place an SD card in the top slot for the ROMs. However, I just don’t understand why it wouldn’t load so many simple games. The Xbox had no problem loading the majority of game ROMs.

I’m not an authority on these things but I always thought that the Everdrive was seen as the modern version of the Super WildCard. The WC used a disk-drive capable of reading/writing the old 3½ inch floppies and the Everdrive basically used a flash-cart to play any SNES game you want. I hear these are a great investment as you don’t need to buy any expensive games ever! So with that in mind it’s surprising that so many of the games you said didn’t load properly.

I own some of those games but there’s many on the video I don’t have. I particularly like Arabian Nights, Gokujou Parodius, Rider’s Spirits, Psycho Dream, Crystal Beans and Micky In Tokyo Disneyland.

Your video has also reminded me of such gems like Bakutou Dochers, Pikiinya! and Popeye: The Tale of Sea Hag. They look good and worth playing, I’ll keep a look out for those in future. What are some your favorite games?

The ones I had the most fun with were: Bakuto Dochers, Xandra no Daibouken (actually was released in the UK), Otoboke Ninja Colloseum, Magical Drop 2, Super Robot Taisen (I love them all), Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer (I really love Roguelike games since the Izuna games on the DS introduced me to the genre), Kat’s Run, Bike Daisuki/Riders’ Spirits, Crystal Beans Dungeon Explorer, Great Battle III, Kunio-kun no Oden, Arcus Spirits, and Panic in Nakayoshi World.

I wanted to play more of Shin Momotaro Densetsu, but I could not figure out how to save the darn game. There’s a real lack of information on this game on the Net. Furthermore, I bought it cart-only for cheap, so I don’t have the instruction manual. I scored several RPG games for just over 100 yen each, and this allowed me to capture footage of these games much later in the game’s story. I wanted to avoid just showing the first few minutes of RPG games with characters at level 1 as much as I could. Certainly there are clips of games like this in the video, but many of them are much further into the game. Funny thing about Shin Momotaro Densetsu is that you can peep at the girls’ bath, and the game features seldom-seen nudity on the SFC.

It was also interesting to play through Metal Slader Glory with an online walkthrough. It’s a port of a NES game with updated graphics, but even the original NES game sported some very fantastic “I can’t believe this is on the 8-bit NES” graphics. I had volunteered to help translate this game for some guy, but it turns out he didn’t have a clue on how to handle rom translations for the SNES, and he disappeared on me.

Wow, Metal Slader Glory was the last ever game officially released for the SFC wasn’t it. Isn’t it like a virtual-life adventure game or something? That’s pretty bad he ran out on you, I guess he couldn’t face talking to you once he realized he was out of his depth.

I have Shin Momotarou Densetsu myself though it’s one of the RPG’s I’ve not got around to. I got it dirt cheap complete with manual & map in great condition so I couldn’t complain really. Haha cheap nudity is always a surprise in early Nintendo games. Have you ever seen those Teacher Hitomi games that were released for the system. I’ve seen some footage and I don’t think parents would approve!

To be honest I don’t care much for Great Battle III, I just couldn’t get into it but I like how you can change between each medieval-themed Gundam. Bike Daisuki! Rider’s Spirits is like Super Mario Kart but with motorbikes though Super MK seems to me to be the game that’s a lot harder to beat on one player compared with it’s obvious clone. I still found RS to be a fun alternative and it’s great in multi-player.

Xandra no Daibouken. Yes your half-right, it was released in Europe under the title of Whirlo but only Spain got an actual release for it, though there was probably a language option to change it to English. The PAL version is actually quite rare and expensive.

Metal Slader Glory is a text adventure, similar to Snatcher. It’s really just reading and going through menus. I am not sure if there is an action sequence at the end of the game. I didn’t play it all the way through; only to the real exciting part when the little sister is snatched away by the alien monster. I think the end of the game involves your protagonist boarding the Metal Slader mecha to rescue his little sister or something. This game also contains some nudity, and I made a video of it here.

Yes, Bike Daisuki is like a Mario Kart-type game. Kat’s Run is a neat racing game that features all Japanese K cars, the small engine cars of Japan. It is certainly unique for that reason.

I might look into Bike Daisuki. Is it worth buying?
