So I went on Amazon just now and lately, the prices for some Super NES games are quite steep. Even some of the more common games like Mega Man X and Contra III go for $20-30 at least for a loose cart. Oh, and let’s not get into the current prices for most of the RPG’s. I remember paying less than $10 for Mega Man X back several years ago. What’s with the price increase all of the sudden? Has the demand gone up exponentially?

So, are there any good games on the Super NES that are still cheap? Specifically under $20?

Plok is under 10 dollars

Super Turrican is under 15 dollars

Skyblazer is under 20 dollars

Equinox:  Solstice 2 is under 15 dollars

UNIRACERS IS UNDER EIGHT DOLLARS!!!!

Tetris Attack is under 15 dollars

ActRaiser is under 15 dollars

Illusion of Gaia is under 15 dollars

U.N Squadron is under 15 dollars

Legend of the Mystical Ninja is under 20 dollars

They are there, you just have to know where to look and know which underlooked gems are worth getting for the price.  All of these games are among the best in their class but for reasons unknown they never go up in value

But 30 DOLLARS FOR CONTRA?!?  20 DOLLARS FOR MMX?!?  wow…..

Mark, do you buy SNES games cart only, or do you need the box and manual also?

I answered assuming that he is seeking cart-only, since he will find very little online CIB for under 20 dollars.

Let us know if i assumed wrong!

I don’t mind getting the games cart-only. I don’t really need the box and manual if anything.

I think the last SNES game I bought before I moved from America was Run Saber, a fun Strider-like platformer game. It wasn’t very expensive. My local used books and media superstore, Bookmans, had a decent selection of SNES and Genesis games.

Also consider some of the games we have reviews for here. For example, Buster Busts Loose, Dino City, and Super Punch Out. All good games you could for less than $20. Might be able to get these game for less than $20 complete.

Or you could try and get a bundle of games. You might have to live with a few titles you dont really want, but overall price might justify it, if you shop right, you can get a few good titles for much less than 20 each, although total price would be higher. People often try and sell a system with games included, could also be worth it depending on which games those are.

I really will have to get Buster Busts Loose pretty soon. Remembering it when I was young it was a quality platform game with entertaining mini-games in between each main stage. The Hungry Boy Hampton one was so punishing if you couldn’t figure out the controls.

Also a shout out for Plok. An underrated platformer that can get lost amongst a sea of superior-sounding alternatives. It’s great stuff and has a killer soundtrack by Tim Follin (he did the ethereal soundtrack for Equinox). It doesn’t cost much compared to most titles & I bet if you look around a complete in box Plok won’t set you back that much. Worth getting.

Try a local, non-chain game store.  There’s one I love called Cybertron games and they carry nearly everything, including SNES games and accessories.  I’ve bought my copies of Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country from they for $12 apiece.  I also got Mortal Kombat 2 for $4 and Mortal Kombat 3 for $7.  They all were cartridge-only and in good shape except for MK2, which had it’s sticker missing, but plays just fine.  Occasionally, they’ll have a complete boxed set going for $30-70 dollars, depending on the game.  I doubt you can come to this particular store, but you may be able to find one similar near you.  Lots of times, these small stores have good deals and a knowledgeable staff.  Good luck finding games.

Currently looking for the following SNES games:

Chrono Trigger

EarthBound

Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV)

Secret of Mana

Illusion of Gaia

Super Castlevania IV

Super Mario RPG

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

 Zombies Ate My Neighbors

TMNT IV

Contra III

Most shmups and a few beat ’em ups are still cheap.

UN Squadron, Gradius III, Axelay and Super R-Type can all be had for around $10.

Final Fight and Batman Returns are around $10 also.

Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

the best I could come up with is ken griffey junior, for 2 whole dollars! it actually surprised me, because I spent so much time on this game when I was a kid. so that was probably my best pickup of the 4 games that I own! I did get it at a vintage stock, which is surprising because they usually overprice games.

US prices are lower then I thought then even assuming these are cart only. Must be the excessive feebay costs that put me off buying from the US. Also from my experience nearly all shooters and scrolling fighters aside from the games you mentioned, are some of the costliest genre’s to get for the system.

My advice to anyone starting a SNES collection would be if you see any of these for $10 buy them.

F-Zero is another great game that usually sells in the $10 range.

Anyone starting a collection would be best served going for the good/great games that are cheap ($10 to $15) and hoping to come across a deal on some of the “elite” games while on the hunt.

Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown
