I had the retro duo and it was ok but games got stuck in it and for some strange reason it caused radios to have static. They do make a portable SNES and NES but for some strange reason they kept the region lockout tabs in it unlike their systems, which is the only plus to the systems is they are region free except PAL I think.

This is as good as it gets http://www.ebay.com/itm/RETRO-…..1e77b4163d this is the region free one not sure about nes though. Here’s the portable http://www.ebay.com/itm/FC16-G…..3f174e23b9. They’re OK but not as good as the actual system.

for those interested hyperkin supaboy is another SNES portable that can also act as s system if you hook it up to the TV. Still testing it thoroughly so look for a future article as part of my peripheral series

I’ve been curious about the SupaBoy for a while now.
Does the SupaBoy come with a stand or anything to hold it up while being used as a system? Does it work with standard SNES cords or does it require its own?
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

No stand, but it DOES come with evertything it needs to function as a Console. Video out cables and a plugin. Original controllers plug into the supaboy for console play.

In the past, clones have been inferior to the originals in just about every way, though the use of HDMI in newer clones intrigues me!
I must admit, I recently purchased a clone controller to replace an original controller whose cord was starting to fray. It actually wasn’t bad, but then again, it wasn’t exactly good either. The best part about it is the look. Just might have to do a review for it!

I own a Supaboy, the design is awesome!, plays almost any game, it is compatible with the game genie and the mouse for Mario Paint.
Issues:
It doesn’t run the japanese version of Mario RPG, you need the one made in Mexico
It doesn’t run the mexican version of Kirby’s super star, you have to get the one made in Japan (confusing huh?)
Yoshi’s Island freezes constantly
Some versions have sound issues, hardware issues not software, the kind that make it not work after a couple of months.
Other than that all games work wonderfully, even repros and Super famicom games.

Thanks for the info Aldo Chan!
Mario RPG doesn’t work with most clone systems due to the SA-1 chip. The issue with Yoshi’s Island is probably due to the Super FX 2 chip in the cart. Clones usually don’t do well with special chips (which a lot of SNES games were using by the end of the system’s life).
Apparently the Retron 5 is shooting for full compatibility. It will be interesting to see how close they can get.
