OfflineI knew you guys were out there! ![]()
For my two-cents, 3D Mario is a lot of fun, and I liked Mario64 despite being confused by it back in the day. I don’t think it will move that much hardware, but it will be a welcome sight to those deprived WiiU early adopters. A classic Tier 2 Game (Give me a reason to invest)
I’ll ask again because I really have no idea about Pikmin other than it’s sub-par sales statements: AM I MISSING OUT ON SOMETHING HERE?!?

OfflineI can’t comment on whether the Wii U’s upcoming 3D Mario title will be a system seller or not, E3 will give us much needed clarity. I will say if it’s more like Mario 64 & less like Galaxy then it could be a big system seller but either way it will give Wii U a much needed boost along with the new Mario Kart, Wind Waker HD, Super Smash Bros, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, & whatever mystery project that Retro Studios has been working on.
As far as Pikmin goes, this will honestly be my first one but I’m looking forward to it as while not a huge seller for Nintendo, it has very VOCAL fans and has garnered a pretty big cult following over the years.
Not a fanboy, just a gamer...every system has its gems!!

OfflineIt’s a fair criticism that we can be a little overly critical (i.e. negative) around here.
Videogames are fun and there’s a lot of positives to focus on (especially when it comes to the SNES library). I will try to emphasize the positive more in future topics.

OfflineI’m really excited for EarthBound to finally be coming out on the VC here and in the (even more finally)PAL regions. It is a game that I wish more people had played back in the day rather than be thrown off by the graphics. All I know is that since 2007 I’ve been one of the people hounding Nintendo to get it on the VC regularly and with all the vague excuses and deflections I thought it might never come.
It gives me the ever slightest hope that we might one day see a release of Mother 3 here.

Iwata’s just getting caught up on old e-mails. He’s finally realized people want Earthbound. He should get to the Mother 3 requests in 10 years or so.

OfflineThanks for posting this!
Unfortunately, it’s only on the Wii U VC, but at least fans now have a legitimate way to play Earthbound that is reasonably priced and a way to show Nintendo that they care about the series.
Heck, a new Wii U plus an Earthbound download is much cheaper than a complete-in-box (with guide) copy of Earthbound.

OfflineAnd who knows? It may lower that insane cart-only price a little bit.
A VC release didn’t really do much for Wild Guns, but one can hope…..
sigh….. It makes me sad that SNES prices are getting so expensive. I have had more than one e-mail angrily telling me that people writing reviews of these games are not helping, since the more a game is talked about, the more the demand goes up, even from a niche little reviewer like myself, the effect is cumulative.
I want everyone to be able to enjoy these games on the native hardware, but at these prices I cannot blame people seeking other means.

Would those same potential buyers even be looking at these relatively obscure games if reviewers like yourself weren’t giving them some exposure?
Reviews are a double edged sword. They help us find hidden gems that we may have overlooked in the past, but they do also raise the price of original copies of the game.

OfflineThat’s pretty much what I said. I do not think any reviewer is doing this to have an averse affect on prices, and without Kikko’s reviews on RVG fanatic I myself would not have begun importing SFC games.
So raising prices are a necessary evil to proliferate the 16-bit era. It shows that interest in the SNES and Genesis is high, though some of this price-gouging is beyond that.
Of course this will happen win each era. I think one reason they are going up is the advent of SNES gamers having disposable income and wanting to re-live the nostalgia of a great system, so prices may inevitably decline.
Nothing lasts forever…

Nintendo is offering the Player’s Guide for Earthbound as a download. I may not have a need to buy the physicial guide after all.

OfflineI’m interested to hear if Nintendo changed anything in particular for the release. Though from what I haven’t seen it doesn’t appear to be the case. I had heard they toned down the PSI attacks, particulary PSI Rockin’ and Starstorm, because of seizure possibilities but I haven’t seen anything to confirm it.
