OfflineNHL.com has a fantastic write-up on the 20th anniversary of this all-time classic. Featuring interviews from the game’s programmer and even Jeremy Roenick…who apparently still gets comments about his dominance in that game to this day!

…I can’t remember whether it was NHL ’93 or ’94 that I played courtesy of a friend who let me borrow it in high school. I had tons of fun with it, but it was the only hockey game I played til this day.
I hope you give NHL Stanley Cup a shot some day. It’s really a unique experience.
People rage about NHL 94–and it was great–but NHL 99 on N64 is my fave hockey game of all time, with NHL Hitz on GameCube being 2nd. I can’t imagine how awesome the most recent games in the NHL series must be.
Oh, and picking up the bronze medal for hockey games has gotta be Blades of Steel on NES!

OfflineI’m more familiar with the Genesis version, but two reliable ways to score in that one are:
- One timers
- Having your player skate horizontally in front of the net, very close to the goalie. The goalie will often go down on his pads when you do this. From there, a simple shot will almost always go in.
My friends and I used to have some high-scoring games! Method 2 above eventually got “banned” after things started to get out of hand.
Good times!
