A couple of you guy’s have gone for Final Fight 3. It’s the one I’ve not played and it’s quite expensive even on import. It looks pretty darn good, an improvement over the 2nd installment, though I like that game myself. What do you folks think of it? Maybe a possible review for someone eh?

Adding it to my review Queue!

Only fair since you did one I am curious about.  I have never played KOTR, and am looking forward to your review!

Let’s revive this topic with our favourite Fighting Games.

The SNES was a leader in fighting games in its day; though many have not aged all that gracefully.

My favourite are:

  1. Street Fighter Alpha 2
  2. Super Street Fighter 2
  3. Mortal Kombat 2
  4. Killer Instinct
  5. TMNT: Tournament Fighters

Coming up with a fifth game was a bit of a struggle…

Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

Oh, I suppose, though it can kind of ruin the fun of TRYING to do certain genres without many of it’s staples (WAIT UNTIL WE GET TO RPG’s!!!! lol!)

As for me, I’m not going to do it, as part of the fun here is that due to that rule, we must go beyond the hits and give the gems their due.

Speaking of which……..JRPG Time!

1.Chrono Trigger

2.Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven stars

3.Final fantasy 5

4.Lufia 2: Rise Of The Sinistrals

5.Earthbound

Good Gravy that was difficult!

Yes, me to. I want to adhere to the rule a best I can.

I like your list, Ive never played any of them but if I could id like to play Lufia II. One question though, is JRPG different from Action-RPG’s like Illusion of Gaia or First-Person ones like Might & Magic III – can it be any type of RPG?

I am referring to traditional turn-based RPGs.

We can give ARPG’s their own due later…

That’s quite the list Ghost.  You weren’t kidding when you said JRPGs; I haven’t played (or even heard of) any of those games.

@Ghostsweeper:

Fatal Fury Special is an AMAZING fighter that barely misses my list. World Heroes 2 is raved about by RVGSteve, and now it shows up on your list. How is it? Finallly, how IS that Cho Aniki Fighter?

Arabian Nights has been on my radar for some time now, and I am eying a potential repro of it! As for G-O-D and Dark Half, how are these games, since they are not on my radar?

@Masamune:

Magical Land of Wozz? I have looked into it but have still not bought. I must say you have piqued my interest after putting it over FF3 and Mario RPG.  What is it like?

Magical Land of Wozz sort of reminds me of Breath of Fire. The reason I ranked it so high is because of the humor in the game. The music isn’t anything special, but the graphics are quite good. If you play the game be prepared for a lot of random enemy encounters.

Yes, unfortunately growing up in PAL region there weren’t to many JRPG’s that made it over here. Action ones are another matter, you will find my list not so strange with them but turn based ones are not too common. Off the top of my head of the only PAL JRPG’s I can recall were Breath of Fire II though they may even be German language/text only. Lufia, again the PAL could be French/German and the only FF to make it to the UK, Final Fantasy:Mystic Quest. A poor list for a poor region in terms of RPG’s and besides I haven’t played any of them either.

Yes I like Fatal Fury. I don’t like how it appears to get bashed because the franchise isn’t on it’s 20th entry like the KoF’s, Tekken or DorAlive. The games are good and Fatal Fury Special is the best one for the SNES. Though I also like Real Bout and Mark of the Wolves that were released on other formats.

World Heroes 2 is a big step forward on the first WH’s. If you just had the first you might well scoff at the idea of getting the next in line but I estimate about a 20-30% overall improvement over its predecessor. I know Steve likes them both and that’s partly due to nostalgia and sentimentality which also plays a part in some of my all-time favorites but like Fatal Fury, the World Heroes games were new to me when I started playing again in 2007 so I have no attachment to them but yes WH2 is better looking, has faster gameplay, includes a better roster, contains crunchier moves. Worth getting imo.

Cho Aniki is WEIRD, somewhat PG-35 depending on how you view it. It has cracking graphics – they do look awesome btw and some ‘inventive’ stages. And to all doubter’s I feel it actually plays very well. It’s the only Fighter game in the franchise I think the rest are Shooter’s but they are on other formats.

G-O-D is an extremely solid game with nice graphics, beautiful music and a menu-driven combat system that gives you an array of different options but you can get the hang of it very quickly which means playing the game is less of a chore. The story is quite interesting and the variety of places you go and people you meet along the way make it all the more enjoyable. I really cannot find fault with the game in any way.

Dark Half is different from most. The game is an RPG, but a very odd one. You control two characters in an alternating fashion in each Chapter. One is a heroic knight named Roda, the other is a demon named Rukyu, whom the people call Satan. They both want to destroy each other for different purposes but to see how the final showdown ends you must keep each one alive in their respective Chapters till the end finale where you are given a choice – YOU decide who you want to be, Good or Evil? Then you must obliterate the other in a Final Battle!
