Why would it NOT be able to? I mean its just an mpg-file of some sort. This game is available on the Sega CD, and other consoles as well if im not mistaken. Its an FMV-title, and i see no reason why the Nintendo cdrom would not have been able to play it. The Snes in the picture seem to be running it from some sort of flash-cart after all.

I guess we will never know, as the SNES is the system that Nintendo killed the fastest. They were already looking toward the N64 as early as 1994!! Ironic, since I have made the controversial statement that if given support the SNES could probably have done a better job Vs. Sony’s new playstation than the N64 with that SCARY controller and its shunning of traditional Nintendo fanbase (NO 2D Mario, etc).
Just look at the SNES vs. the NES for 1st party support! Imagine how much more life they could have squeezed out of the SNES by selling it at the PROFITABLE 99 dollar price tag and introducing a second Super Mario World or another Legend of Zelda! Then you introduce this CD add-on which would have satisfied the CG enthusiasts like Square who left Nintendo for this very reason!!
I smell a future article….

Does Road Rash on Sega-CD have those cartoon characters shown in this video in it as well? That looks pretty good.

I also think the Super Nintendo would have put up a better fight against Playstation than N64 did. Would the Super Nintendo outdo the PS in sales and popularity between 1995-2000? No.
CD add-on might be a good idea if done right, but I don’t think Nintendo would of had the wherewithal to accomplish such a task back then, which is why they wanted to collaborate with Sony to make that happen.

Yeah, momentum was really in Sony’s favor, but at least it might have been a fight……
Nintendo just needs to learn that we dont want “Surprise.” We just want the games we KNOW that they can craft! Nintendos decline can be traced to their mantra of integrated hardware/software and insistence on reinvention with each entry. Notice how their most sucessful systems and games are those that are the most consistent. (Mario, Mario Kart, DKC, Kirby!!) Also note that the Successful efforts all allow for more than one way to play (Multiple controllers, button configurations etc) The NES, SNES, and yes the Wii (With its attatchments) all do this. The stinkers are the systems that tie you to the ONE WackyController and its configurations. (Examples include the N64, GC, VB, ETC)

Never played Road Rash on the Sega CD. The game in the video clip has nothing to do with Road Rash.

You said this game was available on Sega CD. Which game is it? On the Youtube page, it seems to suggest the game is Road Rash.

The game is Road Avenger for Sega CD. One of many interactive FMV games released for that system.
That.
Road Rash is not a FMV title/series. Its a real motorcycle street racing game, where you can beat up the other racers to get ahead. It has some nice humour to it, and in my opinion, the best Road Rash is for the 3DO. If im not mistaken, the Sega CD version is a port of that, but dont qoute me on that.

I see. Are the cartoon people shown running away in the video a part of Road Avenger as well?

I would suspect so, but i have never played the actual game. It is however a manga type FMV game, so again i would suspect its not a complete fabrication just for show, but someones attempt at a port.

Agreed, i think the snes cd could well of produced something like this. The game is Super Road Blaster, or if you have heard of the actual released mega cd version Road Avenger. A simple fmv game that tests your reactions and speed to make the right choices and finish the game in one sitting. The mega cd version was, as was usually the case quite grainy however perfectly acceptable as one of the first mega cd games released. I guess we’ll never know but im positive in my hindsight that with the proper people working on the snes cd then games like sewer shark, road avenger and night trap would of been managable with better graphics and sound then those of the mega cd.

Yeah the FMV games always looked better than they played. And yes Masamune all the people running is just part of the game. Basically it’s a bunch of pre-scripted events that are shifted on the fly depending on your controller inputs. Most of the games were limited in what you could or couldn’t do. It usually involved a choice of 4 directions and combinations of button smashes. So basically it’s like playing one big QTE from games such as Uncharted or God of War.
Not a fanboy, just a gamer...every system has its gems!!

They did release a second Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2:Yoshi’s Island. I guess you mean another Mario game that played like SMW. I agree, that would have been great. As for the CD, they had Star Fox 2 pretty much ready to go, until they decided to do Star Fox 64 instead. I would like to have seen a second Zelda game, a second Metroid game, a 3-D SNES Mario Kart and some others. It’s fun to imagine the games that could have been made. How about a SNES Smash Bros. or Pokemon Stadium?
Currently looking for the following SNES games:
Chrono Trigger
EarthBound
Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV)
Secret of Mana
Illusion of Gaia
Super Castlevania IV
Super Mario RPG
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
TMNT IV
Contra III

SNES CD was/is a bad idea. By focusing on the SNES, Nintendo was able to deliver some great games toward the end of the SNES’ life cycle. I wish Sega had done the same. There was still life in the Genesis towards the end. Look at games like Alien Solider for example.
Sega CD began Sega’s path to ruins, ultimately leading to their exit from the hardware business, though it did give us the Lunar games. Not a good trade in my books.
A better what if, to me, is what if the Nintendo 64 used CDs.
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown
