It’s no secret Super Nintendo games have soared in price over the last few years. What’s the most you guys paid for a SNES game?

For me, it was a CIB Pocky and Rocky 2 for $305 plus shipping. And it seems that game has risen in price still.

$305 wow that is a lot. I will probably never spend that much on a video game.

My most expensive was chrono trigger for $70 last year

Most expensive would be a complete copy of Captain Commando for about $60 a couple of years ago. Worth a lot more now it seems.

I think I’ve gotten numb to the price of SNES games now. Don’t ask me what’s the highest I paid for a Super Famicom game!

I’m saving up for a CIB Crusader of Centy and that’s $300 plus on the internet.

I feel like I’m gonna spend big money on a loose copy of Chrono Trigger very soon. This game is well over $100 CAD in my area :\

I spent $500 on a DKC Competition Cart. And it was kind of a disappointment, to be honest. But in my defense, I was trying to collect as many US releases as I could (I have all except for a few meaningless rares).

I also spent ~$400 on Starfox Super Weekend, but I enjoy that one much more (and it came with the cool Nintendo Power info card).

On the plus side, the DKC cart is worth a lot more now, and many games that I spent $50-100 on are worth at least double that now.

I remember buying Earthbound loose for around $70. Ha, those were the days!

Eric Dude, while you were collecting US titles did you ever come across a complete Miracle Piano Teaching System? It came out for the NES but they are more common than the SNES version. An interesting piece, I would of liked it to of been released in the UK.

Ummm, sort of. Story time!

After years of thrift hunting, I still had not seen one in the wild, until one day at a busy Seattle Goodwill. It was with the other various keyboards, and didn’t have a price tag. So, I took it up to the register, waited in line, and asked the cashier if they could price it. They called over somebody else, who quickly made up something like $70-ish. I wasn’t going to spend that much on it, especially since it didn’t have the a/c adapter, or the serial/controller cable. I put it back, and then went to search the mess of cords/etc for anything that might go with it. After a LOT of searching, I found the SNES/serial cable, which I felt was a small victory. I purchased that for a few bucks, reasoning that it might come in handy some day.

I thought about it more the next day, and decided to go back and try my luck with getting it priced again. This time, they told me $15, and I couldn’t jump on it quickly enough. Still no AC adapter, but no matter. I figured I could find one with the correct voltage and polarity if I searched long enough. Well, it did take a while, but after searching many different electrical sections, I found one with the correct specs. Oh, I should mention that the Miracle Piano did come up with the cheap little foot pedal. So that was nice.

Anyway, I had to buy the cart later (which was not expensive), and then I finally had a functional Miracle Piano. No box or anything, but I used it a few times on my SNES. I’ve actually used more often as a standalone synth, and it even got me back into practicing piano. Oh, and my 1-year-old son helped me discover hidden settings on it. Who needs a manual when you have an inquisitive toddler. Haha!

A genuinely nice story, enjoyed reading it. Didn’t know that it came with a foot pedal, that’s pretty sweet. Id like to have a complete one in original box but getting one from the US and then paying for the shipment is a bit much for what I’d like to spend. Goodwill shops over there seem to just not give a damn regarding prices. Everywhere here most of the stuff is already price marked and I rarely find anything pre-ps2, so lame. I guess it wasn’t the same staff on shift when you went in the next day and got a $55 discount on the original pricewink Kudos for going the extra mile though and picking up the individuals necessary to get it operating again. Haha, your son will soon be better than you on it!

Hehe, thanks! Oh, and it’s worth mentioning that I started seeing them ALL THE TIME after that. Though I don’t usually see them with any hookups.

But yeah, the thrifts kind of suck for hunting nowadays. :/

The most expensive SNES game I ever bought was Earthbound which I bought for $170 right before the Wii U version caused the price to drop.

Earthbound still goes for $150-$200. It continues to defy all rational conventions of price/value! Fanboyism ensures that this game ain’t droppin’ in the near future (apologies to Earthbound fanboys).

Yeah, but you’re probably telling everybody that it’s one of the best Super Nintendo games ever made; nay, one of the best games ever PERIOD! :)

If that’s the most you’ve ever spent, then hats off to you! That’s very reasonable. 🙂

Was that $176 for a complete copy or what? Harvest Moon is such a great game.
