Basically, Chef Ramsay visits a restaurant called Amy’s Baking Company to help save the restaurant. However, this is the first time that he left without helping the owners at all due to the highly egomaniacal nature of both owners. Not only that, but the food isn’t very good. It kinda sounds like the restaurant equivalent of modern Nintendo.

Of course, at least modern Nintendo is much more subtle than that.

You cannot help someone if they do not want to understand the problem……………..

As for this “diner”, I grew dissatisfied with Nintendo’s cooking in 1996; I left in 1999 when it was apparent that they were not serving the specials I used to enjoy any longer.

In 2005 the “Cafe Nintendo” had Chef Ramsay visit and change the menu back to something I recognized and enjoyed.

But by 2010 it was clear that the program he introduced had fallen to the wayside, So now I eat at other restaurants. The “Hollywood Restaurant” has really been on a roll as of late! And I can never get enough of the “UFC Live” Restaurant! And for that very special dinner the “See And  Experience The World Restaurant” cannot be topped.

As for Nintendo Food, I no longer go there despite getting a craving for those classic dishes. On these nights I simply sit at home and remember the taste of those better times (the SNES) always delicious, but never quite the same as a fresh meal…

A VERY ENTERTAINING ANALOGY, MARK!

Lack of third party support for Nintendo consoles is arguably a bigger problem than the quality of their first party developed games (though it is Nintendo’s job to court third party developers).

I had a similar falling out with Nintendo in the late ’90’s, though I was very happy to move over to the PlayStation.

I realized around 1998 that the PlayStation was the true successor to the SNES.  Think about it; the PS1 had:

  • The premier Castlevania game of the era
  • Final Fantasy games
  • Sequel to Chrono Trigger
  • A huge selection of RPGs in general
  • The Mega Man X series
  • New R-Type games
  • New Street Fighter games
  • New Contra game (granted, it sucked)

Compare this to the N64 which had:

  • New Mario game
  • New Zelda game
  • New Mario Kart game
  • New Donkey Kong game
  • NO Metroid or Earthbound games

The PS1 was definitely the most “SNES like” console of its generations.

After the SNES, every Nintendo console’s library has basically boiled down to a few Triple-A Nintendo games, slightly more B+ Nintendo games, around 60% of the multiplatform third party games and a small handful of quality, third party exclusives.

For these reasons, I believe that if the Wii U was a bit more powerful with a decent online interface, it would be in a prime position to win this generation.  Third party exclusives are basically dead, so if Nintendo were able to get all the third party games Sony and Microsoft got, they could become the system of choice by offering the best first-party exclusive games.

That’s an interesting theory on the PS1. To hear you tell it the PS1 basically took the market that the SNES held (Arcade-like experiences, RPG’s ect.) One day I may eventually get a PS1. If only those Damn load times weren’t there!!!

And mark my words; Nintendo can still win this thing depending on what Sony and Microsoft do and their pricing. Sont has already Stuck it’s thumb up it’s ass when it comes to first party support (A GOD OF WAR AND NEW GRAN TURISMO ON PS3 WHEN YOU ARE LAUNCHING A FUCKING NEW SYSTEM!!!???!!! No wonder those investors are calling for SONY to break apart!!

I won’t even talk about Durango because I do not have to at this point….DEAL WITH IT.

Third-Party seems to be taking a transitional title approach, smart since I think we will see an implosion this gen.

It is still too early to count anyone out, and everything we have heard about Durango may be wrong. (I hope so)

Time will tell

Microsoft has backed away from requiring “Durango” to be always online, though who knows when that issue will resurface.

As for a PS1, no need to buy one when you have a PS3.  You can purchase most of the PS1’s best games for around $6 on PSN.  If you find that you like the PS1 style, then go buy the actual hardware (the console itself shouldn’t cost more than $10 to $15, though some of the games are quite pricey).

If you’ve never played the PS1 before, here are some games to check out (keeping in mind your 2D bias):

  • Castlevania Symphony of the Night
  • R-Type Delta
  • Einhander
  • G Darius
  • Mega Man X 4 through 6
  • Mega Man 8
  • Tomba 1 & 2
  • Strider 2
  • Final Fantasy Tactics
  • Lunar 1 & 2
  • Alundra
  • Tales of Destiny 1 & 2
  • Heart of Darkness
  • Klonoa
  • Pandemonium
  • Parappa the Rapper
  • Darkstalkers series
  • Street Fighter Alpha series

….the PS1 has quite the library!  Just looking at that list of 2D games above, it’s no wonder then PS1 trounced the N64.

Should also point out that the Breath of Fire series migrated to the PlayStation as well.

Always wanted to play MM8, especially as I like the main series more than the X. I had a 64 instead of a PS growing up but even I can recognize some classy titles in there. I did get a PSone later on though I don’t have one as of this current moment frown  Did remember to keep a few games though, just in case I ever got one again wink

SotN is awesome, no two ways about it. I still have Darkstalkers, its a great fighter and I like the whole anti-heroes theme. Pandemonium is possibly the first PS game I ever saw and played… on a friends demo most probably. I remember playing it many years ago and it being loads of fun. I would like to play it again some day too.

I know that NOW lol! Shows how much I play the system, but it is good that it will eventually be good for something besides a Dark Souls Machine.

It can also play Super Street Fighter 4, though perhaps your console is having trouble fulfilling that particular function (the only explanation I can think of as to why we haven’t thrown down in SSF4 yet).

I find Nintendo is like a family restaurant here in Nevada. It started off real popular but now all the new ones with big casinos are  coming in and the only people that are going there anymore are the old people with the memories and kids while everyone else is at the casino.

That’s a nice Nevada themed metaphor!
