It depends on what you are expecting. If you go thinking it will be a calm, picturesque experience, the crowd will shock you. But if you go with the right mindset and just let yourself get lost in the energy, it is absolutely worth every bit of chaos.

Vrindavan’s Banke Bihari temple Holi and the Phoolon Wali Holi are genuinely special. These are not tourist performances, they are real celebrations that have happened for centuries. Barsana’s Lathmar Holi feels even more raw and local.

The key is going early, ideally reaching by 7 am, and not carrying anything you cannot afford to lose. Wear old clothes, keep your phone in a ziplock bag and just flow with the crowd.

Many groups from Delhi arrange a tempo traveller rental in Delhi so the whole group travels together and reaches early without the stress of finding parking.
