OfflineStreet Fighter the Movie was on last night. Jean Claude Van Damme plays the role of Col. William F. Guile in one of his worst films which tells you something about the quality of acting within the film. JC-VD is actually one of the saving graces of the film which contains some dreadful scenes and pointless crappy acting from fellow cast members.
Still it’s better then the Super Mario Bros movie with Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo and Dennis Hopper. Now that is torture on the eyes!

OfflineI honestly thought the Mortal Kombat movies sucked too. Lol there was some horrendous VG movies in the 90’s. One useless piece of knowledge I have is that the guy who played the centaur henchman in the 2nd MK movie was a Gladiator on the original series of American Gladiators where he was called Malibu and given a beach-bum persona or some such foolishness. Why do I remember so much trivial rubbish like that in my head?

OfflineI have a friend named Martin that works in Hollywood as a associate producer. We were just having a conversation about why game movies are so hard to crack. He told me that it’s medium separation. Movies strengths are diametrically opposed to Video Games. The parts that a movie does well such as characterization and storytelling are either non-existent or abysmal in games.
By contrast a video games strengths live in between the plot points and revelation. Getting place-to place, solving puzzles, etc. None of this translates well to movies.
A good Metroid movie would have to focus less on the horrific “thebabythebabythebaby” plot and the awful characterization of Samus, and would have to focus on the horror and isolation of being alone on an alien world. Like Alien.
A good Zelda movie would have to skip the puzzles, chores, and open characterization of the protagonist (it’s really the player, hard for Hollywood to work with) and focus on the High Fantasy of a world in peril. Think Tolkien and Herbert.
And a good Mario Movie might roll like Lewis Carrol’s Alice In Wonderland; A stranger in a Strange land motif.
I love talking to this guy…..

OfflineI like the Metroid idea the best. Alien proved isolation in space could make a great movie. I think Zelda would be better as an anime series that lasts no more than five seasons.

OfflineThat would work good if we were talking Modern Zelda; say-post MM. Hollywood would never touch anime-infused anything anymore. The trend is against it.
But a good Japanese studio could do some cool stuff with Zelda.

OfflineI think the company that produced Avatar and The Legend of Korra would be the best company in America to make a Zelda anime. I don’t care if it’s from Japan, America, or anywhere else. I’d like to see it made.
