Ashita no Joe was a big thing in the past. It was about the story of an ordinary man who rose to prominence through the sport of boxing. Like many hot properties tend to do, its likeness was featured in video games.

Can this Super Famicom title stand out and make its namesake proud? Read here and find out.

One of the challenges of boxing games before the 3D era was creating a sense of atmosphere, without having the characters be able to buck and weave. If the fighters are stationary, you’d better have smooth controls, and that doesn’t seem to be the case for SNES boxing games besides Super Punchout!!

It’s a pity the manga style aesthetic wasn’t captured more. Sounds like Ashita no Joe had the source material to make a dazzling experience, but that just wasn’t the developers’ ambition.
