Had this happen to me a little while with two of my carts.

My copies of both DKC2 and Wario’s Woods were pretty finnicky when starting up and I would often have to try putting the game in/out of the console and powering it on multiple times before it worked.  This ended up erasing the saves on both games.

I’ve since cleaned the contacts and the games boot up no problem the first time and have held their saves.

Moral of the story?  Don’t turn your console on/off repeatedly on the same game and keep your contacts clean!

Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

I remember they used to say that in the NES manuals that had batteries. I can’t recall if that was ever mentioned in the SNES manuals though.

Thanks for the heads up!

The topic title made me smile a little. Tbh I wouldn’t recommend switching any console off/on repeatedly in quick succession under any circumstances, it surely can’t do it much good in the short or long-term. Anyway, now you know to just give the contacts a quick clean.
