I dont remember how i found the site. I think Masamune mentioned it in a thread i had over at Sega-16, asking for a site similar to theirs but for the Snes. There are tons of Snes related sites, but they are all specialized, not general like this one. Naturally people couldnt keep it clean, but i think somewhere in between the negative fanboy rants Masamune mentioned this site. Possibly.
The best (apart from the actual forum which can be dodgy at best, outside the sale/buy/trade sections) console specific site i know of is neo-geo.com. It has so many relevant articles, reviews, etc which can really help you build your knowledge base. You also have many knowledgable people on that forum, who are friendly and always willing to help, even people they dont know. But then that forum also has some of the worst behaving people out there also, who just loves to be pricks and push you down if you arnt “hardcore” enough. And that behaviour is tollerated, so i basically only use the forum for questions and answers, never for a social setting. They have a “flame war” subforum, but id say anything goes in every other one. Unless your name is Dion?

I honestly do not know if driving traffic here is the best endgame or not. Natural growth has served us well thus far. But if that is what you want then here is how we could begin.
1. You need to court ClanOfTheGrayWolf, Screwattack, Racketboy, and HardcoreGamer101. Between these four sites you have access to a large number of the Retro game community, many of them SNES fans. Our short-term goal would be to get a shoutout from them. The longterm goal would be a link swap or affiliation with one or more of them.
2. Partnerships with other SNES fan efforts is a must. You have Kikko, we should strive to get the support/ links of SuperFamiking, Evan G, and Corbie Dillard of NintendoLife.com. All SNES fasnatics with a sizable audience. Short-term goal would be links. Long-term goals would be partnership projects such as charity drives and dual articles.
3. Viral Marketing. We have begun this already by putting the site in our signatures but could take this further.
Youtube accounts: Make a SNESHub youtube account for the express purpose of commenting on other SNES videos. Let these comment sections know that this site exists.
Forum Posts: Sign up for Forums like Digital Press and NintendoAge and let everyone know.
Shortand Long-term goals is site awareness.
That’s a good start. The only thing to consider is this: Is this the right direction?
The negatives are that we lose a sense of a coherent community. Before you commit to this you should take a look at how impersonal these forums I mentioned can be. Do we want this here? Is it worth it?
Let me know what you think everyone.

….And on this one I agree with you.
I’m willing to begin if Masamune wants to, but I really dont want to see this community get flooded. And I am worried that could happen if we go this route.
Of course we wouldnt have to do ALL of these things. A good middle ground could suffice. But as it stands I think the best course of action is to hold steady and keep giving the gaming community quality discussion and content.
They will come.

Well, I don’t want the site flooded all of the sudden. That would be too much too soon. I would like a steady stream of visits and new members, but I need to let the community know this place exists.
This site has its own Facebook, Youtube. and Twitter pages. I like your idea Mongunzoo of making comments in video game related videos on Youtube. I’ll start doing that.
I have registered on several retro gaming sites promoting SNES HUB. That won’t change.
I’ve been targeting hardcoregamer101 for possible link swaps for a few weeks now.
Collaborating with other retro sites sounds like a good idea also and I will try to do that in the future.
I was thinking of maybe merging with another site, one that is smaller and doesn’t get updated much anymore, but has a fanbase that will follow even after the merger.
Fact of the matter is, the site is only 5 months old. It’s still a baby! I don’t expect a great deal of activity now, but we need to take steps to reach out to the community a little bit at a time. I don’t want to leave the success of this site to chance only.
Ghostsweeper, that would be great to put SNES HUB’s web address in your sig at GameFaqs, thanks.
Anyone else have any comments?

Well, you can follow some of the best off page methods that are used to drive traffic to a website. Below listed are the top three off page methods :
(1) Article submission.
(2) Social bookmarking.
(3) Blog commenting.
Thanks for the suggestions, Erica. I’ll look into these three methods.

I’ve been posting on Facebook every time I write a review for the Hub. It’s a bit self-serving, but there are several gamer-minded “friends” who faithfully read every one I put up.
I’ve even thought about putting links to reviews on wikipedia. As far as I know these types of efforts are supposed to increase traffic.

I’d recommend doing something like ads that go onto our sigs for other forums. However, it can’t be too big or small (a size of 500 x 200 or similar to that could work). We should get a good designer for them. I’m not a good sig maker.

Thanks! Is it possible to make it so that those banners can link to the front page of the site?

Yes, if you are using them as signatures on other forums, the other forum should have a linking feature to put a link in the banner. Check out Greg’s banner on this forum. Is that what you were asking?
Yep, something like that. Thanks!

Is the wrong spelling in the first banner intentional? if not you might want to fix that.

Well, speaking of spelling errors, it should be “now you’re playing with super power,” not “now your playing with super power”. However, I guess it might be too late to fix that? I know I get put off when I see incorrect spelling and grammatical errors, but many people don’t seem to notice those as much.

I had not seen “your” instead of “you’re”, but i agree with that it should be fixed. I also am put off by incorrect spelling and grammatical errors to a certain degree. Im lazy with apostrophes myself, but those are for most people easy to understand when they are missing. What is worse is “you=u” (too=2 (or even just “to”)) etc, because that just shows lack of commitment to your own input. And dont get me started on lack of question marks. havent seen that much of that here, but its rampant amongst native english speakers. And coupled with bad or lazy grammar it changes the whole concept of what you tried to ask if you skip it. “Have you got blonde hair?” as opposed to “you got blonde hair”. People tend to forget that not always is a question self explainatory, and just one(1) more keystroke makes a world of difference. Rant over.

Hi guys! I agree about the spelling. I can image some people make mistakes, like myself, because they use a smartphone while typing. I reply using my phone and my spelling ain’t that great all the times because of it. Because you have to type every word and sentence perfect since going back and changing a word is very very difficult. Hope you are not offended. I do my my best!
