I understand that a goal of this website is to have reviews of as many Super Nintendo games as possible. But maybe there are some games that aren’t worth a standalone review? I don’t mean games that are bad, per se, just games that don’t really have enough content to warrant at least 800 words on them.
What if we let writers do sorts of “round-up” reviews, where they could look at multiple games at once? These could include several licensed games under one license, or expansions upon one original game, or a look at one developer who only made a handful of games for the console. “Round-ups” could include:
- The four “Ren and Stimpy” games
- The two “Flintstones” games
- “International Superstar Soccer” and “International Superstar Soccer Deluxe”
- “Street Fighter II” and “Super Street Fighter II” (I know that Grimm already reviewed “Street Fighter II Turbo”, so that one can be left out)
- The four Raya Systems games (they made “Captain Novolin” and “Rex Ronan”, among others)
- The two “Smurfs” games
How about it? Does anyone else like the idea, or should we not try something like this?

I think that’s a great idea! Reviews of bad games can be fun for a laugh, but a round-up of say, Batman Forever, is probably good enough to let folks know to avoid it at all costs.
Grimm did a great job with his Street Fighter 2 Turbo review, so a review of the original or Super could just focus on what’s missing / what’s new.
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

I think you may be on to something but I will also add a caveat. GAMES WITH MULTIPLE ADDITIONS.
When I finally get around to doing my Street Fighter 2 review, I will do exactly as you suggest, covering changes across the various additions ala HG101.
-Street Fighter 2
-NBA Jam
-Maddens
These are great examples of games that warrant this approach.
I am less comfortable doing this to a game that is it’s own individual experience, no matter how bad or short it’s subject matter. Trust me when I say that you will have PLENTY to talk about when it comes to games like Novolin and Packy and Marlon lol! I took three pages of notes on Novolin alone!

You have a point, Mongunzoo. In all honesty, I suggested this idea because I wanted to look at the “Ren and Stimpy” games, but I didn’t want to write four reviews for what look like the same cash-in. (I’d rather not write any more reviews until another one I already submitted gets put up, but regardless.) “Captain Novolin” and “Packy and Marlon” may not deserve to be lumped together in such a way.

The only Ren and Stimpy game I am familiar with is one where they are trying to get parts for a machine or something….I don’t own it yet and have never played the others so They might be able to be lumped together in the manner I was speaking of.
Use your judgment but if RushDawg is right I say go for it!!!

Ultimately I want a full length review for all 721 North American games. I think every Super Nintendo release deserves its own full length review, even the Maddens and Street Fighter II games. This will take several years to complete. In the meantime a roundup of games is ok. I would place these kind of writings in the article section.

Okay, I’ll write full-length reviews. I won’t do multiple reviews at once. It was a stupid idea anyway.

No such thing as a stupid idea. Ideas often lead to permanent concepts. For instance, Ren and Stimpy? Rather than doing a full review for each game, You could do a spotlight article on the Nickolodeon games fromm the SNES era!
That could be fun, as Nick is an essential part of the equation that is the 90s Kid.

I’ve often thought about the round-up approach in regards to sub-genres. In terms of of teams sports games, I gain a lot from the compare and contrast method. Especially with a sub-genre like football, where there are about twenty, and five or so are quite fun. But I can see how that approach is more appropriate for the article section.
Legendoffzelda’s Alladin review was the site’s 60th. Only 661 to go! With one review per week, we should conclude our quest around Christmas 2025.
