OfflineI’d love to read or write an article about some of the best music of the system a game or franchise had to offer.
Whenever I hear the music of Donkey Kong 2, I am brought back to the epic tag-team adventures I had with my brother. The soundtrack for DK2 is highly imaginative and is the best I’ve come across on the Super NES. More recently, my brother said he read an article where the writer of the soundtrack said he “really pushed the limits” for the amount of memory for the game’s music.
Is there another game, or group of games whose soundtrack would make for a good article?

OfflineThat’s a really good idea for an article.
Some other games that I think have great music are:
Actraiser
Actraiser 2
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy III
Magical Pop’n
Star Fox
Those are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head.
If you want to do the article, go ahead. If not, I’ll do it. Let me know.

OfflineCannot forget Earthbound! That may be the game your brother was referring to. Itoi had to increase the memory just to fit all the great and quirky music the game contains!

OfflineIts a shame that Earthbound evidently saw a less offensive language when translated from japanese. According to what i saw or read, and naturally i dont remember where… but anyway, they showed comparisions of accurate translated japanese in several scenes that were much more crass and funny, than what ended up being translated into for the US release. Maybe not a huge deal, but its these little things that makes games interesting. I suppose it has to do with USA’s double standard on cursing etc.. Cursing in film etc is fine, as long as its 17+, but cursing in a game. OH NOES! our children will be corrupted……a few years BEFORE they turn 17! (yes, sarcasm).
Ive yet to play the game, but i do want it, it just seems to get more expensive all the time and i cant prioritize that kind of money on a loose cart with my economy..

OfflineIt is an INSANE double-standard lol!!! The story of EB is extraordianry and worthy of an article in it’s own right.
A shame about how expensive it has gotten. I managed to find mine about four years ago at the beginning of my gaming revival for about 40 U.S dollars, and even then it was going for 80+.
A shame it is so prohibitively expensive…….

OfflineAgreed to those listed above. Donkey Kong Country’s got an amazing beat if you enter Funky Kong’s barrel flight! I left this on while I was about to make myself a sandwich the other day and it has a fantastic loop. Golden day’s of Rare.
Don’t know if this counts as sound track but “the Lost Vikings” and “Turtles in Time” got some serious 90’s beats! ![]()

OfflineSpeaking of Earthbound, the creator recently stated via twitter that something is in the works for this franchise in the future. And it’s not Earthbound 4.
I don’t know what it means, but hopefully whatever it is, it will come Stateside and in Europe as well. Here’s the link.

OfflineLots of great ideas, everyone!
A lot of games y’all are mentioning I am not familiar with. But I’m happy to see Star Fox get mentioned twice! I picked up SF at a Buy/Trade shop while also acquiring Yoshi’s Island for my wife (I got the pair for $30, and they threw in Toy Story for free). I look forward to saving the galaxy with Fox McCloud and the gang. ![]()
Anyway, I feel the DKC series would make a strong article. But I’d love to hear more about the other games mentioned several times: Final Fantasy III and Actraisers, etc.
I’m a bit detained getting thoughts together for my next review, a hockey game I just beat called NHL Stanley Cup. So Masamune, care to take it away?

OfflineI’ve been researching for this article. There is just too many good tracks out there to properly put in one article. Instead I decided to list the 15 most epic sounding SNES tracks. The qualifier is these tracks will be based on the games I have personally played. So there might be other pieces you can think of that sound just as or more epic sounding, but I’m going off what I have experienced in my life.
It could be a great comparison piece. ![]()

OfflineYes that’s perfectly understandable. Go for it. You can always ask the forum members here to name they’re own personal top 10 or 15 and see what names crop up. I love a good piece of quality music in games. I think it would also broaden the possibility of something you, me or any of us here didn’t even know about like some hidden gem with a stonkin’ good soundtrack.

OfflineI love DKC2’s soundtrack. Another soundtrack I like is A Link to the Past. It introduces Zelda’s Lullaby and the opening music really sets the tone for the rest of the game. I also like the Dark World overworld theme.
Currently looking for the following SNES games:
Chrono Trigger
EarthBound
Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV)
Secret of Mana
Illusion of Gaia
Super Castlevania IV
Super Mario RPG
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
TMNT IV
Contra III
