I know sports games aren’t the strong suit of the Super NES. It is a system that excelled in platformers, RPGs and Action and Adventures. That being said, there are some sports games on the Super NES that deserve consideration.
Some possibilities:
FIFA Worldcup
NBA Jam; TE or original
Tecmo Super Bowl III: Final Edition
John Madden Football (91)
Top Gear 2
NHL Stanley Cup
Even if some of these don’t grade out well from the reviewer’s perspective, it still might be helpful for fans to be introduced to a genre of the system they might not be as familiar with.

OfflineThat would depend on how you define the sports genre. SNES Sports Games have really taken it on the chin when compared to the wealth of Sports offerings on the Genesis, but quantity does not always equal Quality. Same thing with action titles.
The SNEs was a more varied library, sacrificing depth in one particular genre for a little bit of everything in each. Some of my fiavorite Sports Titles
NBA Jam: TE: Better than it’s genesis counterpart, this game was pure fun!
Tecmo Super Bowl 3: Final Edition: Had a lot of fun with this one back in the day!
Ken Griffey Jr. Series: Still the best baseball games ever made!
As for your poll…..Racing hands-down!!!

OfflineThe general consensus is that the Genesis did better in the sports department than the SNES, though it did have the better port here and there. And I agree with Mongunzoo that the Super Nintendo edged out the Genesis on racing games, which I actually voted for in the poll. What on the Genesis can compare to Super Mario Kart? I think the SNES got the better port of Rock N Roll racing as well.
Mongunzoo has a Super Nintendo sports article coming up. It’ll be released in September. I’d also love some sports games reviews, but who is willing to do them?

OfflineDont look at me, im not a sportsnut. And, basically, the only sports games i have are for more or less modern system, in racing and combat sports categories.
I do have Elitserien 96 (swedish league, basically they changed names etc in an EA NHL game) for the genesis (or megadrive as it were). I also have Mutant League football, and looking for hockey in acceptable shape (complete). I think i have Madden and Fifa for the 3DO, and a NHL installation on PS2. Then i have GT 2, 3 and 4 for the playstation systems. And various arcade street racing games. MMA games and one boxing game. But pure sports games are rare in my game collection.
I have Asperger's Syndrome, which means i can come across as rigid and overly argumentative. Please try and look past this and contact me if you have a problem with what/how i type. I type and read very literally and use no undertones. Thank you for trying to understand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.....r_syndrome

OfflineI boldly commit to a review of an NBA Jam game. The original is slightly more popular on some lists, but there would be more to say about Tournament Edition, so I’m torn.
As for the other games Mongunzoo mentioned, I’ll keep Ken Griffey, Jr. and Tecmo Super Bowl III on the radar.
I feel a burden for NHL Stanley Cup as well, since it’s so unique.
What I’ve come accross regarding the NBA Jam back story is fascinating, especially regarding the rights dispute between Midway and Acclaim. Acclaim took the franchise in a much different direction once it had the reigns. It’s always fascinating when I find out about the people and personalities behind the creation, development and distribution of a video game.

OfflineNo Fishing as an option?
Just kidding but I’m surprised Golf wasn’t on the list as there are a number of decent sims on the SNES.
NBA Jam is damn good fun I’ll admit. My personal choice for top sports game would be International Superstar Soccer Deluxe by Konami, a fast arcade-style soccer sim which oozes playability and amazing graphics and features some of the best over-the-top commentary you’ll hear from a soccer game.
I have some of the Astral Bout games which apparently are the first incarnation of an ‘MMA’ game.

To be fair, I should have mentioned Fishing, Golf and Tennis (can’t PO the Super Tennis afficionados out there
). Listing 8 was already looking busy, so I chose the highest represented sports.
I haven’t heard of some of these games being mentioned! But I’m glad Ghost referred to Superstar Soccer Deluxe by Konami, as I’m attempting to familiarize myself with all the soccer games on the SNES.
All right, review of an NBA Jam game coming up.
