What reviews are people working on / have submitted recently?
I figured a topic like this would be a good idea, so that we’re not duplicating our efforts.
For my part, I have recently submitted a review for Tetris & Dr. Mario. I’ll be finishing up a Super R-Type review, likely this weekend, and I’ll be reviewing R-Type III next.
What’s everyone else working on?

I’m glad you asked. I’m working on reviews for “Final Fantasy VI”, “Mega Man 7”, “Mickey Mania”, “Sparkster”, and “Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow”. (The “Cold Shadow” one is finished, I just need screenshots.)
I’ve submitted reviews for “U.N. Squadron” and “Gradius III”. My “Aladdin” review went up today, and that makes me happy.

Great job on the Aladdin review.
‘Round these parts, we call it Final Fantasy III, lol. Looking forward to that one. Reviewing RPGs can be a daunting task. I might take a crack at writing an Illusion of Gaia review when I’m finished that game.
I’m also interested to see your thoughts on Mega Man 7 and Sparkster. Mega Man 7 was panned by critics upon release, but has become quite the collectible over the years. Sparkster (SNES) is considered to be the true successor to Rocket Knight Adventures, though I never played it. Have you tried RKA?

Thank you. I saw your comment, and you made some good points about the Genesis version.
Yes, it’s called “Final Fantasy III” around here. I actually call it “Final Fantasy III (VI)” myself, but that may be too informal for Masamune’s liking. That being said, It might be last on my roster right now, because it’s so huge.
Also, I have played “Rocket Knight Adventures”, and I honestly like it more than “Sparkster”. How about that?

Great topic idea!
I’m also currently working on the finishing touches on a FF3 review, so I’ll call it ta second opinion since you declared first lol!
Masamune has an Illusion of Gaia, Mega Man X2, and Demon’s Crest Review from me at this moment.
Next in my pipeline is Super Bomberman, Secret of Mana 2, Jaki Crush, an article on the Super Scope, and 1991.

John,
You are correct on the Final Fight review, good memory. I actually finished one, but I decided not to submit it for 2 reasons:
- I currently do not own the game
- While proofreading my finished review, I found I was being overly harsh on the game due to its lack of content relative to its arcade counterpart, rather then reviewing the game on its own merits
Going forward, I’ll only be reviewing games that I actually own. While my collection is modest, there are still a few games I have that haven’t had reviews posted yet.
PS – Rocket Knight Adventures is by far the best game in its series.
Mong, thanks for the heads-up re: Illusion of Gaia. I am currently playing through it now. Knowing that you’ve reviewed it, I’ll focus on enjoying the experience rather then nitpicking the bad translation!
Are you going to review Soul Blazer next? That game is rough around the edges!

Your reasons make sense. I’ve decided to nix a review on “Paperboy 2”, since it would have mostly been about how I dislike the “Paperboy” games.

I will definitely be doing Soul Blazer! it is definitely rough compared to the other two games, yet it is packed with great ideas and concepts.
As a whole I find the Quintet games endlessly compelling.

You’re a real asset to this site jrsupermoore. In the retrogaming community, most people completely write off sports games without giving them a chance. It’s great that you’re giving so many of these games (which are practically free these days) the attention they deserve!

Great topic. For my own part I decided against submitting the review id written as I really wasn’t happy with it so I started again this w/end just gone. Happy to say its ¾ finished so should be available to Masamune v.soon for an independent proof-read before it’s up on the site. It’s a review of Capcom’s ‘Knights of the Round’ btw.
So many goodies from you guy’s I’m looking forward to. Demon’s Crest, R-Type III, Jaki Crush, Sonic Blastman and Jurassic Park are the ones I’ll be looking for that I have never played (yet). Also the Super Scope feature would be great. I’ve recently been scouring the net trying to find a good price cib Yoshi’s Safari.
Uniracers will be interesting. It’s called UniRally in EU and I quite like it, once you play against someone of similar ability it really shines. Oh man, Mega Man 7 is the bomb. I only have it on import as RockMan 7 but I find it so fluid and dig the music throughout as well as the stage design so I might have to give it a 2nd opinion review in the future. Is it wrong I like it more than the NES classics or more than the X series…
I’ve never played Sparkster, either for the SNES or MD. I say that because both games are different yet from the reviews/critics it would appear RKA is the mass favorite. Personally RKA is one of the best platformers I have for the MD. I’ve had my copy since ’94 and played through it countless times. Quality shines through, even on the Sega

Ghost; looking forward to your Knights of the Round review! That’s a game that’s always piqued my interest, though I’ve never actually played.
You’re right about RKA being awesome. Next to Sega, Konami was probably the best developer for the Genesis. They gave us Sega fanboys RKA, Castlevania Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps, arguably 3 of the Genesis’ top 10 overall games. TMNT: Hyperstone Heist was great too!

To me, the two games are equal in the graphics and sound department and Hyperstone Heist plays just a little better because of the run button.
Where Turtles in Time flows ahead is in the overall flow of the game. Hyperstone Heist feels thrown together, whereas Turtles in Time has a natural progression to it.
That said, you can’t go wrong with either game (I actually own HH but not TiT)
