In the early to mid 90’s “Sonic Clone” was basically its own genre; everyone was trying to create the next popular mascot.
To me, Konami was the only one to succeed from a gameplay standpoint (with Rocket Knight Adventures / Sparkster) though they didn’t come close to matching Sonic’s popularity.
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

I’m currently working on a review for Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble. It’ll be submitted later tonight or tomorrow.
The Alien 3 review is on-hold for the time being.
edit: Bust-a-Move review is now submitted.

I’m looking forward to reading this review and I hope I get a chance to play the game some day. I miss the bubble-bopping dinos of yore, and I love me a good tetris spin-off.
My next effort will be Star Trek Next Generation: Future’s Past. The dumb name in itself could spell its doom. We shall find out!

Looking forward to all of your upcoming reviews John! Earthworm Jim and Goof Troop in particular both practically epitomize the early ’90’s!
I’m also interested what your thoughts on Mega Man X3 are. Many consider it the best in the series. I’ve personally never tried it and given the going rate for the game these days, I’ll likely only get to try it as part of the Mega Man X collection

Thanks for your enthusiasm! Although I’m not one of those who call “X3” the best in the series, I’ll say that right now. Even so, I recommend “Mega Man X Collection” since it has what I consider the series’ twin peaks “X1” and “X4”.

X4; what a game! Felt almost like two games in one with both X and Zero’s stories. The graphics were gorgeous for the time and still look good today. Best part; its cheap even outside of the X-collection (around $20 or so).
