OfflineI would like to write an article highlighting ten-or-so significant playable female characters in the SNES catalogue. Trouble is, there are so many games I haven’t familiarized myself with. For instance, and for shame, I’ve never played Super Metroid.
So although research can make up for much of my current ignorance, I would like some help with suggestions. Who would you put on your list?
Currently my rough, rough draft would look like this:
10) ???
9) ???
8) Charlotte — Samurai Shodown
7) Yuka — Super Tennis
6) Sonya Blade — Mortal Kombat (I)
5) Hillary Clinton — NBA Jam: TE
4) Dixie Kong — DK II & III
3) Princess Peach — Super Mario Kart // Super Mario RPG
2) Nakoruru — Samurai Shodown
1) Samus — Super Metroid
As one might imagine, the topic has been covered before, here by GameFAQs.
Any input would be appreciated!

OfflineNeat article, though I’d recommend including the first-lady of fighting games, Chun-Li on your list. I’d argue she deserves to rank higher than Nakoruru and Sonya Blade.
Terra or Celes from Final Fantasy 3/6 both deserve a spot (perhaps they could share a spot?) since they kind of share the role of “main character” for that game.
Looking back on it, there really weren’t many games that had a woman as the only playable character back then. Really make Samus and Super Metroid stand out.
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

OfflinePerhaps you could add Kunoichi from Ninja Warriors? I read she has already been on some top female characters list back in the days :
In addition, the character Kunoichi was ranked as sixth on the list of top ten fighting women in video games by EGM in 1993[10] and as number one best ninja assassin in the history of video gaming by GamesRadar in 2008.[11]

Also, Marle or Lucca from Chrono Trigger? And I agree with RushDawg regarding Terra or Celes from the Final Fantasy series.

Can’t believe I forgot to include Chun-Li. She was one of the ones I was most excited about featuring.
Great suggestions, all! I can’t wait to give this topic a go.
