So what games did you bug your parents to get you because you just had to have it. You had seen the screenshots in a mag or catalog, you’d read the previews or reviews and now was the time to strike while the iron was hot – or to put it another way because your parents had to pony up the dough on behalf of Santa.
For my NES it was Mario Bros 3.
For my MegaDrive it was Rocket Knight Adventures but really the big one was Shining Force.
For my N64 it was Zelda: OoT.
For my GameCube it was Paper Mario: TTYD. Think that was the last game I asked for that I really wanted.
Looking back it looks like I had good taste in games. Not much wrong with any of these. My bro had the SNES up to the noughties so I can’t include it sadly as obviously they had stopped production of games by the time I owned it. I recall him getting the fighter Killer Instinct w/CD one X-Mas however, it looked mighty impressive at the time.
Oh and for the topics sake people can include birthday’s too. I only didn’t because all these particular games were bought especially so I got them at X-Mas though knowing my mom she bought them months in advance and concealed them up the loft or something.

First game I just needed to have was Super Mario Bros. 3. My parents agreed to buy it and I went with them. They were sold out at Toys R Us, the store I usually got my games at the time. We also tried another department store nearby and they didn’t have it either.
I began crying like a baby because I wanted it right there and then. I cried in the store in front of everyone and I remember sobbing and sniffling too, as if it would change things. My parents brought me Donkey Kong Classics instead and put a rain check on Mario 3.
I never acted up that way before or since over a video game. I’m surprised my mother didn’t punch my lights out for embarrassing them like that in public. She may have threatened it though, I can’t remember. Eventually I got it a month later or so. All’s well that ends well!

He may have a point. No game has or ever will sell out and be demanded like a 2D Mario game. I remember getting an NES FOR SMB, I remember the trip a state away to find a store that had SMB 3, I remember Folks not being able to even GET an SNES due to SMW, and I remember the Wii Selling out again and again and AGAIN because of NSMB Wii.
With NSMBU, I am interested to see the phenomenon in action again. Will people pay 400 dollars to play Mario?
I think that they may….
