OfflineI’m a fan of Egoraptor. He’s a very funny guy who mainly makes flash cartoons, but he’s known in the videogame community as well. One of his videos was mentioned in the comments section for Mongunzoo’s Mega Man X review, and I wondered what you guys thought of him.
Ego’s main contribution to videogame discussion is his “Sequelitis” cartoons, where he compares two videogames in a series — usually an original and its sequel — and discusses what the sequel does both well and poorly. Some Super Nintendo games he looked at were Mega Man X and Super Castlevania IV, and he’s working on another that’s been long-anticipated by his fans about The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. He also often dissents with the popular opinion on certain games, but those opinions can be interesting to learn.
With all this in mind, what do you think of Egoraptor?

OfflineI too saw that comment in the Mega Man X review. It prompted me to look at the link that was posted. That Mega Man X video of his is informative, funny, and weird all at the same time. I can see why he has over 800,000 subscribers. His skill with animation is also very good.
I like the fact he backs up his points with facts and figures. His channel should be on TV; it’s better than anything on G4 right now.
*My 500th post. What a milestone.

Congratulations on 500 posts. Also, glad to hear you like Ego; the rest of his stuff is worth a look as well. His “PokeAwesome” video is considered his magnum opus.
Have you seen the Sequelitis on Super Castlevania IV?

I haven’t looked at his other videos. I saved his channel in my bookmarks for later use. There seems to be a lot of original quality videos being uploaded by users of Youtube. There’s not enough time in the world to watch them all!
Alright. If you do get to see the Castlevania video, I’m interested in your reaction to it. It’s less than six minutes long, but I’m not sure I can accurately summarize what he says, so I’ll wait.

I watched the Castlevania video. Although I never played Castlevania IV, he makes clear points about his issue with the game with gameplay vids and rhetoric. Makes one wonder what the point of secondary tools were when the whip was the do everything weapon. It sounds like the game would be so much cooler with added imagination given to the whip. I liked his idea of using it as a traveling mechanic.

I also wanted to talk about some of Ego’s opinions of other games. He’s has gone on record saying he dislikes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV and the Sonic the Hedgehog series, among others. How would anybody here respond to that?
I’ve never played Turtles in Time, but I sure do love Sonic the Hedgehog! If he was talking about the many 3D iterations I can definitely see that. But if he’s talking about Genesis Sonic, I wonder what he didn’t like about it? Sonic is pure fun for me. But I’m easy to please.

I re-watched the video where I learned about Ego’s opinions on Sonic; it was an episode of another series of his called “Game Grumps”. Yes, he does dislike the 3D games, specifically the “Adventure” titles. But what he said about Genesis Sonic was that the game relies on momentum too much, and losing it by running into an enemy or slowing down for a platforming segment makes the game not fun. He’s okay with Green Hill Zone from the very original, but that’s it.

I’m looking forward to watching Ego’s other vids in his Sequslitiss series. I really did appreciate his thoughts on Mega Man X and classic. I was informed about why the former worked, and was reminded of why I love the latter (2 and 3) so much.
You and me both. His next episode, about A Link to the Past, has been a long time coming.
