OfflineHi everyone! At work, we recently started using Shifton to optimize shift schedules. It seems to work well, but there are a few things that worry me. When shifts are automatically generated, employees’ time preferences are often not taken into account – some want to work in the morning, some in the evening, and some cannot work on weekends at all. How do you generally approach the combination of automatic planning and manual adjustments?

OfflineI have experience working with Shifton in one of the companies, and I can share my impressions. To begin with, automatic scheduling really works, and this is probably the main feature of this service. The system analyzes data on employees’ working hours, their preferences and working restrictions (for example, who can work on weekends and who cannot). After that, it generates a schedule, taking into account all these parameters. However, if you need to make changes – for example, someone is sick or cannot come to work – this is also not a problem. https://shifton.com/shift-scheduling has flexible settings that allow you to quickly replace an employee or even change the shift time manually. What I like about shift creator is that the system not only helps with scheduling, but also takes into account such things as overtime or rest after difficult shifts. For example, if someone worked for several days in a row, the system will automatically offer rest for this employee to avoid overload. For us, for example, it was important that the service could quickly redistribute shifts between employees. Sometimes someone wants to swap with a colleague, but how to coordinate this in the work schedule without errors? Shifton has a built-in function that allows employees to suggest swapping shifts themselves. The system immediately checks whether such a possibility exists, and if everything matches, it changes the shift automatically.

OfflineThis sounds pretty convenient, considering how much time and effort can be saved with such a system. But I wonder how Shifton handles unpredictable situations? For example, what if an employee says they can’t come to work a shift at the last minute, and there is no replacement available? Can the system somehow suggest alternatives, such as finding another employee or rescheduling work hours? And in general, how flexible is the system in accounting for constantly changing circumstances, such as sick leave or shift cancellations?
