OfflineMamoru-Kun, a Japanese shooter in the style of Pocky & Rocky may get a Western release!
Check out the trailer here:

I think it looks pretty fun, though the voices are very annoying. Hopefully there is an option to turn it off. Also, despite being on the PS3, I acutally think Pocky & Rocky looks better, strange as that may sound.
What do you guys think?
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

OfflinePocky and Rocky looks vastly superior to this game. The voices are god-awful and the subject material is not very interesting.
By contrast, Pocky and Rocky had no terrible VOs,(and if they could have done it, the WOULD have been terrible. When are game developers going to realize that just because you can make characters speak doesn’t mean that you should?)
Pocky and Rocky is also inspired by interesting material such as Japanese folklore and mythology. This game is inspired by some third-rate anime that the developer probably likes. This is all too common for game designers who think that they can just adopt an anime style and call it a day regardless of how interesting the concept really is.
If there is a way to turn those voices off, I could see myself giving it a go. But P&R looks vastly superior by comparison.
But at least someone is still making this type of game…..

OfflineHmm, looks a little disappointing in motion. Once again, it also seems graphically inferior to the original Pocky & Rocky.
As for Mamoru-Kun, I should point out that the developer, G-Rev, has a strong resume when it comes to shmups and is staffed by former Taito employees. They’ve put out both Under Defeat and Border Down, the latter of which is considered to be a spiritual successor to the Darius series.
They also collaborated with Treasure on Ikaruga and Gradius V, so I have high hopes in their abilities to create a P&R style game, awkward anime license and all!
