I’m guessing most lists will have at least 10 games in common; there seems to be a general consensus as to what the best games for the system are.
I’ve never actually played the Adventures of Batman & Robin (I’ve only played the totally different and very hard Genesis version). I do love Batman Returns, even if it’s action-heavy focus goes against what Batman is all about (being a stealthy detective). It’s one of Konami’s best beat ’em ups and has a much deeper moveset than most other Konami brawlers (including the Turtles game). It’s depth actually reminds me more of a Final Fight or Streets of Rage game. I actually wish the game wasn’t based on the mediocre Batman Returns movie; I’d prefer if it was just based on a general DC comics license. I think the gameplay style would fit much better if Batman was fighting enemies like Killer Croc, Bane, Ra’s al Ghul, Man-Bat, Clayface and Solomon Grundy; physically intimidating enemies that would fit well in a beat ’em up setting. Danny Devito’s penguin just isn’t that intimidating…

This is one of the more mind-numbingly hard lists to make for me. Especially when I get out of the Top 5. But I’ll give it a shot:
1. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
2. EarthBound
3. Super Metroid
4. Super Mario World
5. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest
6. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
7. Mega Man X2
8. Sim City
9. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time
10. Chrono Trigger
11. Final Fantasy III
12. The Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse
13. Mortal Kombat II
14. Donkey Kong Country
15. Actraiser
16. Killer Instinct
17. Zombies Ate My Neighbors
18. Street Fighter II Turbo
19. Tetris Attack
20. Super Mario Kart
21. Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
22. Secret of Mana
23. Super Castlevania IV
24. Mega Man X
25. Illusion of Gaia
That took a few revisions and if I were to make another I’d probably add different games with a different order. Thus is the nature of these lists I guess.

Have you played the Tales of Phantasia remake on the Playstation Juggs or anyone for that matter? If so, which do you think is better?
I’ve only played the SFC version but from what I’ve heard the PSX has some slight improvements. I just like the lower res pixel art and non-3d overworld visually.
The GBA version is supposedly a disaster.

Hi Junky, nice list. From what I notice you like your strategy/tactics games a lot. At your #12 is that the 4th installment of Ganbare Goemon that plays like the 1st one that got US/EU release?Kudos for having Terranigma & Chatting Parodius in there too.
Yes, it’s the fourth one on the SNES/SFC and IMO the best game in the Goemon series. I pretty much like anything JRPG-ish in general whether it be turned based, action, or strategy.

Ive been thinking of getting an english repro of tales of phantasia. I really like the more recent entries in the series. Is phantasia that good? Or will i be dissapointed because im too used to the mechanics of the newer games?
The only Tales game I had played prior to Phantasia was Symphonia. I though Symphonia was okay but Phantasia was way better. It has a very 16-bit feel to it so it feels closer to Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasies than it does to Symphonia other than the battle system of course.
