“Mount Rushmore” can be interpreted differently from person to person. You could probably make a decent argument for 15 or so different titles, so it’d be interesting to see everyone’s own Mount Rushmore interpretation.
For me it’s gotta be:
1. Super Mario World
2. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
3. Super Metroid
4. Final Fantasy III
They constitute, IMHO, the best of Super Nintendo’s platforming, adventure, action and RPG genres.
Which 4 titles would you pick? And for argument’s sake, you can’t do Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World compilation game pak, sorry 😛

Man, It is HARD to narrow down a few key titles!!!!
Â
I’ll go with Super Mario World, Super Metroid, The Legend of Zelda:Â A Link to the Past, and Chrono Trigger.
Â
Honorable mentions would go on to include Super Street Fighter 2:Â Turbo (Which combined with the other four I named constitute my “Big Five”), Final Fantasy 3, Terranigma, and ActRaiser.
Â
For those that have visited Mount Rushmore, I guess that would make them Presidential Busts

This is a deep question. The four games must represent some of the best and most beloved games for the system. They have to be the sort of games that you would offer up to a fanboy of another system and say “this is our best.”
Super Mario World would have to be there. A Link to the Past too. Chrono Trigger surely would have a spot reserved. Finally, Super Mario Kart would take the spot in my book. Had a great amount of fun playing this game with my sister.
What about everyone else?

That’s a tough one indeed…I do feel a bit ashamed to say that to this day I still haven’t played Super Metroid, Chronotrigger and Final Fantasy III (!) Do I even belong here???
However, since I recently started buying “new” games for my snes those are the ones high on the list. I have the feeling they do live up to their reputation.
But for now my list would look like this:
1) Super Mario World
2) A Link to the Past
3) Super Mario Kart
4) Super Bomberman (this game really sells my snes addiction to those new to the system) 🙂

Hehe, yes, you belong here. Those are some good choices. There are so many good games for the system, it’s hard to pinpoint just four. For the record, I’ve never played Super Metroid either. I’ll remedy that soon enough though.

It IS hard! A while ago I tried to narrow down a top 100 for one of my past efforts.
Â
Couldnt do it….

In terms of converting the Genesis fan who doesnt know anything about SNES…
Â
1. Super Mario World. NOTHING IS AS FUN, ADDICTIVE, AND VIRAL AS A GOOD 2D MARIO GAME!!
2. Super Metroid. Pure atmosphere combined with near-perfect gameplay makes this a winner in my book!
3. Chrono trigger. I have yet to see a person who is introduced to this game and NOT finish it! Perfect pacing in a usually slow-as molasses Genre, it shows the SEGA fan what he/she is missing when it comes to the plethora of RPGs on the SNES.
4. Super Mario Kart: The Legend itself rears it’s head with (arguably) the best party game on the system.
5. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past: I break this out last to show them what a perfect game looks like…
Â
The reason for these is that there is literally NO ANSWER of equal value to these titles.
SMW: No, Sonic DOES NOT appply here. It’s fun, but anyone who says its Mario needs to go play it again…
Super Metroid:Â No Answer to this
Chronio Trigger: No Answer to this. Phantasy Star does not come close!
Super Mario KArt:Â No comparable answer to this.
The Legend of Zelda:Â To those who say Landstalker…go play zelda then talk to me!
Â
-Now, to those SNES Fanatics that really are of the opinion that Sonic and Landstalker are better games, RPGs are boring, and Mario Kart is kiddie stuff (they are out there…) heres what I do
Â
1. Axelay: You say the SNES has no shootemups? Heres one thats better than just about any Genesis counterpart…
2. Wild Guns: Amazing game that they have NO answer for
3. Super Metroid: For the kiddie argument
4. Super Turrican 2: To prove that SNES can hang with genesis in terms of action
5. KGjrs. Major League BAseball: nothing beats getting a Genesis fanboy who talks smack about the sports offerings on our system hooked on this game!!!!! EVERY. TIME. WITHOUT.  FAIL. The ultimate statement

You really put some thought into this! Makes me even aware that I haven’t played some of those titles myself (super metroid, chronotrigger) and from your 2nd list I haven’t played even one of them!
What would a genesis fanboy’s mount rushmoure be like?? I don’t know the games they have for the genesis but there have to be some good titles that they feel the snes fanboy’s don’t have and wished they had.
In the meantime I’ll have to check out those , by me, unplayed games.

I honestly can’t do a snes mt.rushmore, I can’t do it justice because there’s so many games that I enjoy… a top 20 maybe.
As for the megadrive/genesis I can offer 5 titles that make me appreciate what it has to offer despite some of its shortcomings compared to the snes
1) Shining Force
2) Blades Of Vengeance
3) Rocket Knight Adventures
4) Dynamite Headdy
5) Phantasy Star IV
Honerable mentions; Micro Machines 96′ Turbo Tournament, Light Crusader, Gunstar Heroes, Turtles: Hyperstone Heist and finally Tiny Toons Busters Hidden Treasure.
I own all these and play ’em whenever i get the MD out of the cupboard. Damn good games, check #2 BofV out if you’ve not played it. Awesome game! A snes version would of been super sweet.
