Does anyone remember the amazing Fighting Fantasy classic game-books by Games Workshop co-founders, Steve Jackson & Ian Livingstone? I just stumbled across my collection the other day, I nearly have a complete set of the game-books. Used to read them as a kid, mainly getting them out from the village library but eventually the series would be the cornerstone of my reading material throughout my teen years.

Some of the earliest conversions of the books to software. These 80’s games were available on ZX Spectrum & C64.

Hmm, I never heard of these before. I’m really into medieval fantasy stuff, so perhaps the books might be up my alley. Definitely a twist on reading which I never experienced.

It’s an excellent series of role-play games in every aspect of the writing; the illustrations; the atmosphere; and the execution of gameplay. I promise you though, they are not easy to complete!!

Did you know… In the mid-1980s Livingstone did some design work for video game publisher Domark, and in 1993 he returned to the company, this time as a major investor and board member. In 1995, Domark was acquired by the video technology company Eidos. In 2005 Eidos was taken over by SCi and Livingstone was then the only former board member to be retained, taking on the role of product acquisition director. He contributed to the Tomb Raider project entitled Tomb Raider Anniversary, which was released in 2007. In 2009, Japanese company Square-Enix completed a buyout of Eidos Interactive and Ian was promoted to Life President of Eidos.

Did you know… Due to censorship of all things seemingly anti-christian, “House of Hell” was censored to “House of Hades” when released in the U.S. in the mid-80’s. However, all of the stuff about a devil-worshiping cult, human sacrifice and the infamous picture of a naked woman about to be sacrificed by frenzied goat-headed acolytes were left untouched! Just instances of the word “hell”. . . smile
