Hello, everyone! My friends and I are stuck in Istanbul for a week, and frankly, the endless mosques and markets are making us dizzy. We’re craving a simple, human-like getaway by the water. We’ve heard that somewhere outside the city there are huge sandy beaches with proper infrastructure, where you don’t have to huddle on the rocks. Has anyone been there? Is the water really clean there, or is it like the strait? And how well-developed are the bars and music scene there, so you can have a good time with friends rather than just laze around?

Oh, and I almost forgot to ask about logistics—if you book an organized pickup with a hotel transfer, it’s a long way from the center. And is there food on site, or is it better to bring some snacks to avoid breaking the bank at the local cafes?

Last year, we used this method to escape the heat because it’s very hot in central Istanbul, and the sea has a completely different atmosphere. If you’re seeking a proper beach with deck chairs, tunes, and a relaxed vibe, it’s better to head to a private one. Like, we booked a trip to Solar Beach through GetExperience, and it was awesome. Haven’t heard of it? It’s very big, and the DJs are great on the weekends. The water in Kilyos is cleaner than in the Sea of Marmara, but remember that the Black Sea often has waves, so you might not be able to swim like in a pool. Their shuttle picks you up from your hotel in the morning, and the drive takes an hour and a half, unless you get stuck in heavy traffic on the way out. There are some good restaurants there, but the prices are higher than in the city, so be sure to bring water and small things like nuts. Most importantly, bring a lot of sunscreen; you can get sunburned right away by the water!
