A game that many people love tempered by many who don’t get what all the fuss is about, Earthbound is as polarizing as any video game. Don’t know much about the game? Read the review here and gain a bit more insight.

The origin of everyone’s favorite little Smash Brother. Earthbound is one of the greatest RPGs that I have ever had the pleasure of playing, simply because everything that goes into it is so original.

I hope one day I’m able to play this game. Not sure I want to pay the going rate for it though.

as a kid when I was about 12 years old I got this off of ebay for about 40 dollars.. included the cartridge, the big box, and strategy guide. again, as a kid I ripped open the box, scratched off all of the smell and sniff stickers, and let a friend borrow the guide and the cartridge. never got my game or guide back and the box is MIA.

the great thing was that I enjoyed the game without a care as a child. and currently all of that is unheard of for a game so expensive. hopefully if the price goes down I can get this gem of a game again.

this is easily my favorite Super Nintendo game, but I haven’t played a lot of the popular RPGs yet. the art style and humor alone in this game is what makes it so awesome!

Someone else on the forum was saying how he lent his SNES and games to a friend and the friend lost them. Don’t you hate it when you lend someone something and they lose it or broke it? Not just kids, as adults do it too. It sucks.

But back on topic, I will one day splurge on this game when the time is right. From what I’ve read about it, it has a strange sense of humor. I enjoy weird humor. The only thing that put me off back in the ninties was the battle format looked similar to Dragon Warrior.

I liked Dragon Warrior, but at the time I didn’t want to play a Dragon Warrior clone. I was more into RPGs like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy.

I’m afraid I fall into the camp of gamers who don’t really get what all the fuss is about.  It’s a solid RPG, but far from what I’d call amazing.

I actually played it back in the day (rented it from Blockbuster a few times) and it just didn’t grab me the way Chrono Trigger and FF3 did.  Heck, I even had more fun with Breath of Fire 2!

For all its charm, I found its interface to be a little clunky (with the exception of winning fights automatically when you’re a high enough level).  I also found it took to long to get your other party members to join.  When I play an RPG, I like having a solid team relatively early in the game.  A nitpick for sure, but it still affected my enjoyment.

On the other hand, I’m still kicking myself for all the chances I had to get this game on the cheap (as I’m sure we all are).

Masamyne, this website should aid in finding it cheap.

Been using it as I’m trying to find it myself, just have to find the right time to strike!

LOL!  It’s crazy that such a website exists.  Perhaps its a sign that the Earthbound bubble is about to burst?

That or, we’ll soon be seeing Earthbound finance plans.

I’m sure that the games demand will die if it comes to the virtual console or a handheld.. 180 for the cartridge is just insane.

It probably won’t dip much below $100, even with a VC release (if Chrono Trigger is anything to go by).

I think it might, it is all about demand and if the demand is actually met through another means besides the cartridge it will see a big price dip.

I hope you get to man, that was really a game that embodied my entire childhood. It’s weird how some games have that effect on you

that website has definitely showed me cheaper eBay auctions. But if you want to find the best deal you need to go to a pawn shop or thrift store.

it is all about diligence. As long as you stay consistent and keep trying to look you will find something at least. Maybe not earthbound, but something.

I’ve tried to bid on it cheap on eBay, but for some reason eBay doesn’t think my ZIP code exists in my state and I can’t register.

EarthBound

Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV)

Secret of Mana

Illusion of Gaia

Super Castlevania IV

eBay bids usually end high unfortunately.  Your best bet to score a cheap copy is to find one in the wild, but there’s no guarantee that will happen.

Like t3r1s said though, you’ll find something if you stay on the hunt~
