SimCity has been all over the place and even non-gamers may have seen or heard of it or one of its offshoots. A launch title for the Super Nintendo, it provided something different from the usual platformer. It seems more like a thinking person’s game. You can read the review here.

I liked the review. My only issue is with the comment on the soundtrack: even if you don’t like it, you have to recognize that it’s well composed and entirely (dare I say masterfully) appropriate for the genre.
