OfflineThis is one of the games you show to someone interested in getting Super Nintendo games. It’s a finely crafted game with a good replayability factor. See the review here.

OfflineI really should’ve bought the game when I had a chance. Now, copies on Amazon are going for at least a little over $40! I’ll probably get the Super Famicom version which is much cheaper. Is the game text-heavy?

Wow great review!! I love the way you grab m y attention and it makes me want to read more and more. It’s hard to write something about a game with this big status but you succeed again!
Mark
From what I’ve seen so far this game is not text heavy, but then again, I haven’t played it to the end yet.
$40,00 is a lot but this game will only go up in price I think. I see your point in getting a Famicom version of this one. If you’re able to play the Japanese games than it wouldn”t affect your game experience much I think. And if you do need some translation you can always ask here on the forum

OfflineGreat review!
Super Metroid stands the test of time beautifully. It is a wonderful example of a game that was easy to get into with a great atmosphere, without relying on complex tutorials or text dialog (something a lot of games of the era did well, but I’d argue Super Metroid does best).
Perhaps what truly makes this game stand out most is that Nintendo themselves have never topped it. They came (very) close with Metroid Prime, but it ultimately felt a little too familiar (despite the new perspective) and didn’t bring nearly as many cool power-ups to the table. I wonder if we’ll ever get a game like this again…
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

OfflineI never got to play other am because it was very look down upon as a Metroid game. I did get to play the first Metroid Prime game it was awesome! great transition into 3d, just like Zelda and Mario.
Super Metroid holds a special place in my heart as 1 of my favorite games of all time. the atmosphere is what makes the game the best and the tight controls are definitely something that adds longevity to the game. throw in sequence breaking and all of the myriad of glitches that are useful in the speed runs, and you also have a competitive title! I rank this up there with SotN as my favorite Metroid style game.
I did enjoy playing fusion, but it didn’t really compared to the original Super Metroid.
great review!

mark, Super Metroid is available on the Virtual Console for $8.Rushdog, what did you think of Metroid Other M? I know a lot of Metroid fans hate it, but story aside, what do you think of the gameplay?
I’ve never owned a Wii, so I haven’t played Prime 3 or Other M. I have seen YouTube videos, etc. of Other M though.
From what I understand, the consensus is that Other M has fun but linear gameplay (like Fusion). I can say that I had a lot of fun with Fusion, though the linear mission based gameplay is a lot less fun then Super.
I’d also argue that Super has a better story then Fusion, despite not having any dialog. There’s just something about the atmosphere they were able to create with Super. In hindsight, it was a very brave decision to let the game stand for itself rather then making us sit through a long introdcution, cut scenes, etc. to give us our motivation / background, etc.

OfflineGreat review, and nice tip about playing the game through without utilizing the map rooms.
Currently I am enjoying my first playthrough and I’ve already logged in 12 hours! But I can say with pride that I’ve relied on virtually no internet “help” in my quest thus far.
This is certainly a must-have game for SNES fans.
