I don’t have a 3DS. To be honest, I’m probably not going to get one anytime soon if ever. The battery life is too short and the games don’t look that exciting aside from a few. I also don’t like the 3D gimmick that Nintendo put in their system. The 3D looks cool as first, but it’s kinda like those lenticular cards you get from Lunchables boxes in that you get bored of it quickly and don’t use it again.

I bought one and I enjoy it very much. One nice feature is the fact you can turn off the bloody 3D. It also has a Virtual Console that has some quality games you might not be able to find for the original systems, like Metroid and Link’s Awakening DX. Right now, the 3DS library itself isn’t that exciting. I bought Ocarina of Time 3D. It has beautiful graphics and a nice Master Quest version, as well as some other extras, but all-in-all it isn’t a huge difference between that and the N64 version. I also have New Super Mario Bros 2. If you are on the fence about getting one, I would watch this year’s E3 and see if they announced anything that interested me. I like supporting Nintendo anyways. Also, I heard they’re going to release GBA and SNES Virtual Console games for it in the future.
Currently looking for the following SNES games:
Chrono Trigger
EarthBound
Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy IV)
Secret of Mana
Illusion of Gaia
Super Castlevania IV
Super Mario RPG
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
TMNT IV
Contra III

Good advice. Outside of Zelda and maybe Kid Icarus, there isn’t too much I’d want for it at the moment (maybe Mario 3D Land as well).
Would love if they gave it a proper 2D metroid though!
Now playing: SNES - Phalanx, R-Type III, Genesis - Bio Hazard Battle, PS3 - Dragon's Crown

Yeah, I didn’t think NSMB2 was that great. It was very easy to get extra lives and they would stay there when you shut off the system. I finished the game with over 100 extra lives. No one should need that many lives to beat a Mario game. It might just be me, but I think the original Mario Bros. series and Super Mario World were much more creative, difficult, and fun to play. I’m still waiting for the 2D Mario that can truly surpass SMB3 or SMW.

True. I think Nintendo should give the Mario series a rest for a couple of years because he hasn’t been able to preform to his highest standards since the SNES.

Look at the performance of the n64 and Gamecube for a Nintendo where they give 2D Mario a rest. That would be the biggest mistake they could make.
2D Mario DOES NOT need a rest. What it needs is for Nintendo to put some actual F’n Effort into them like they do with 3D Mario.
I don’t get it. 3D Mario has become a massive money sink that NEVER delivers what it takes in, yet Nintendo continues to heap resources on it regardless.
For a 2D Mario to surpass 3, it would need to do what 3 did.
-2D Mario was always used by Early Nintendo as the SYSTEM SHOWCASE. Every Mario game was made using top-notch production values. Each game showed what the system was capable of. This no longer happens since MarioU just uses recycled content from the prior 5 releases (THAT MUSIC)
-Mario 3 and Dinosaur Island felt like EXPANSIONS of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario 3 gave us scrolling levels and Airships. Mario World gave us Ghost Houses. Hell, Even MarioWii added Multiplayer and Vertical levels despite using the tired Nintendo level themes.
But this will not happen, and so Mario will die the slow death that Zelda is experiencing.

The same way I resisted Luigis Mansion 1?
As for 3D Mario games like Galaxy:
CRITICALLY, yes.
Fiscally, NO.
3D Mario has never really sold. Mario 64 is STILL the best-selling in the series history, and at this point I think it is safe to say that that was because of the novelty.
Mario Sunshine did not sell.
Mario Galaxy sold well but not as well as Mario 64, and with a userbase of 90-plus MILLION!
Mario Galaxy 2 did not sell. It barely escaped Sunshine numbers.
none aside from Mario 64 sold hardware, and the biggest hardware jump actually came from Ocarina of Time.
By contrast, 2D Mario mints money, with each release selling over 20 million lifetime. NOTHONG is as consistently strong aside from Wii Sports. not even the money-printing Call of Duty. Even U, the weakest game in the series in some respects will sell as WiiU sells. Very telling that it is neck and neck with the PACK-IN!!!

I just want them to start making a quality Mario sidescroller again. The new ones just don’t fell innovative like SMB3 or SMW did. Is it because there’s not much left to accomplish in a 2D platformer anymore?

No….There are a million things that could be done with 2D Mario, yet all the truly creative content is squandered on 3D Mario Games. have you played Galaxy? Those PRODUCTION VALUES, that MUSIC, those IDEAS. Imagine a 2D Mario that was given this emphasis. It WOULD be like the second coming…
Since Nintendo refuses to think up any new content for 2D Mario, let us do it for them.

That’s what I’m talking about. They’ve pushed the 2D ones to the side and just keep doing the same tired things over and over again, while doing new innovations to the 3D Marios. They need to put some creative energy into the 2D ones so they will start feeling fresh again.
