Cool games! How much did they set you back at this event Mark??
You will like Final Fight 2 despite its obvious flaws. For me personally it certainly seemed nicer to play then the SNES’ port of the first Final Fight.
I have just bought Superman: The Man of Steel for the Sega Megadrive. I have no plans to see the recent movie but it did remind me of the TV series with Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane and some other guy I can’t remember who played Clarke Kent I guess. Was their boss at the Daily Planet just a parody of J.Jonah Jameson? I have a vision of them being very similar with the same sounding voices too. Anyway I know the game will be a ‘fun to play while it lasts’ affair but then most movie licenses are, with the odd exception of course.
Notice the very distinct difference in region covers – US got this in ’92 [Image Can Not Be Found] while EU got this in ’93 [Image Can Not Be Found]

Actually, I didn’t like it too much. Compared to the first game, FF2 felt a bit too much like the first and in general, ended up feeling like a low-budget movie made for TV or a direct-to-video release. At least I didn’t pay around $20-30 for it though.
In total, I spent a little less than $50 during the whole thing. Super Mario Kart and Puyo Puyo 2 Remix were $12 each and Final Fight 2 was around $16, I think I got a slight discount since the owner is pretty nice. I spent $10 for Wario’s Woods and last, but not least, I got a game genie for $8. I also got a Nakitek Game Saver for free from a good friend.

Those are good deals altogether. I paid around $10 for a cib Final Fight 2 some years back, think it was one of my first imports. I thoroughly enjoyed it, though in hindsight I did play it before I had played Final Fight 1 so that doubtless had some impact on my opinion. It’s funny you say it feels like a low-budget movie or direct-to-video release, as I recall no coin-op version was ever made for the arcades – it was a direct SNES exclusive much like the expensive third entry in the series (which is supposed to be the best)

Well, I knew that FF2 was a Super NES exclusive. However, compared to the first game, FF2 didn’t really have much ambition or even much passion into it. If anything, FF2 felt a bit too much like the first, but doesn’t have the magic that makes FF1 so special.

I agree. It doesn’t add anything new really, save for different locales, enemies & that much needed 2-player option. It still plays as well as ever and there are some nice touches even if the selectable characters are very underwhelming. I suppose however its no comparison if you were to compare to something like Streets of Rage 2 – that’s how you DO a sequel. I’ve not played the 3rd entry but apparently it’s a big improvement on FF2.

Just waiting for it to arrive.. Rolling Thunder 2, cib for the Megadrive. I’d genuinely like to get the 3rd installment. Rolling Thunder 3 is a superb game and it’s almost criminal that it was restricted to a US-only Genesis title. It makes it somewhat expensive also, yet I may track a copy down in the future. Here’s hoping.

Awesome games! I just completed FF II / IV yesterday! I can’t tell which FF I prefer on the SNES but I believe FF IV is somewhat ”lighter” in terms of storyline and gameplay.. Nevertheless, the FF titles on the SNES are great!
I’m giving Mystic Quest a playthrough and now I know why it’s everyone’s favorite FF game!
Today I picked up these SNES titles for cheaps:
*Championship World Class Soccer
*ESPN Hockey Night
And for PS3:
*Madden 11
*Madden 12
So far WC Soccer kinda sux but it was fun once I got the hang of it.

I had no idea that Rolling Thunder 3 was a North American exclusive. You would have thought Namco would have at least released it in Japan.
Hope you enjoy RT2!

I just got Final Fantasy 3 and Illusion of Gaia. Final Fantasy 3 came in today and although I think the game is good I think I liked FF2 or 4 I guess a bit more it was my first never really played the first one I actually recently got into Final Fantasy this year when I got 4 on the PSP
3 / 6 is a lot more story driven than 2 / 4. It’s also a lot more open ended, especially later in the game. How far along are you?

I just bought the Sega Genesis Ultimate Collection disc for the PS3. I’ve had this on the Xbox360 before but never got around to playing it. I was about to try and buy a Sega Genesis system and a few games when I realised all the games I wanted were on the collection disc.. I figured I’d give it a serious try before spending my millions on another retro system… $14 > $80-100+, right? The disc is also brand new!

Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection is a fantastic value. One of my favourite PS3 games by far. There are so many classics on the disc and they’re all emulated really well.
My main gripe is that for some reason, they left out the lock-on function between Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. There’s also a few noticeable omissions from Sega’s library (Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, etc.).
Still, you can’t go wrong for 40+ games for $14! Since you just beat Final Fantasy 2, I’d recommend giving Phantasy Star IV a go and seeing how it compares to the 16-bit Final Fantasy games (skip Phantasy Star II and III as they haven’t aged well).

I bought Pandora’s Tower for the Wii and Adventure Time: Hey, Ice King! Why’d You Steal Our Garbage for the 3DS as well as a copy for my nephews as a late birthday present. I can’t wait to get back into the game collecting racket again now that I am gainfully employed again.

I hadn’t bought any games for a long time until recently. In the past month, I’ve bought several DC games here in Japan: Street Fighter III, Sonic Adventure 2, Puyo Puyo Da, and Last Blade 2. I also scored an auctio on YAJ for two DC arcade sticks for only 2,500 yen. I was lucky to get that! It’s certainly a perk of living in Japan. I bet those go for a lot in the US.
